Type-S front seats in base TL?
Has anyone tried fitting TL-S front seats in a base TL? What/how much does it involve? Those offer more support don't they?
I just thought about this idea after I got done with a 6-hour driving trip and I noticed that my back is kinda sore even with the lumber adjustment.

Rather than taking the entire seat off the track, I was wondering if it's just a matter of simply swapping the seat pad and the leather cover.

if your back is sore, you might have your seat set improperly!

+1....I drive about 25K+ miles/year and these seats are not that comfortable. I drove my friends G35 this past weekend and just sitting in his seats made the pain in my back go away. I've played with the lumbar plenty of times on my long road trips and it doesn't help.

I guess if you can find a used pair of front Type S seats, it would be the best way, assuming the airbag module question gets answered.
But if you were to buy the new parts from the dealer, it would be much cheaper to replace just the seat pads and the leather cover, if that's possible.

I sourced it from car-part I paid $500
I did the swap last year and just never got around to ordering the module for the passenger side seat. I remember the module being missing under the seat so I tried to replace the box from my older seats and it didn't work. I don't remember to much from the driver side, when I get time I will check out again. I believe the driver side was plug and play, but the passenger side is where you run into problems.

Best thing about the seat holster is you can draw without being seen from outside the car. Great for those all too common car-jacking attempts.

If you're asking me, a couple reasons..
1. The Type S seats have thicker bolsters, gives you more of the bucket seat feel. I drive my car hard and today on the highway, going fast in the twisties I especially noticed the improvement in the seats they kept me in my seat firmly. Whereas with my base seats I'd be moving out of my seat left and right even with the seatbelt on. I'm a fairly slim dude.
2. I like the 2-tone ebony / silver type S seats, makes the TL look like a racekor.

Check local scrapyards that are parting out a salvaged Type S. In my area there are a few Type S being parted out you can get the full seats for about $400-500.

Much harder to find salvaged TLs in Canada, since there are less of them. Not to mention people jump on them really quickly when they are getting parted out.

Alright so I re-checked all my connections.. still no luck. The passenger's seat all the connections are in. On the driver's side, the Type S seat has an extra grey connector that is not there from the floor harness in my base.
Here's a pic of the unused connector (the grey one beside the yellow one):

Could that possibly be the connection for the heated seats? Although my passenger's side heated seat also does not work which is pretty confusing.
If someone has a wiring diagram for the seats it would be much appreciated. Winter's almost here and I don't want to freeze my butt off.

I have owned an '04 TL and now an '08 Type-S. I haven't owned the '04 in a few years but I do not believe you will find the Type-S seats any more comfortable. It is easy to dial in too much or too little lumbar support...especially combined with the wrong seat back angle.
