Turning on the security feature

Do you need to hit the "lock" button twice to really turn on the anti-theft security system on the TL? Or is it engaged after pressing it just once? You usually hear a beeping sound after pressing it twice.

You just need to push the lock button once. Pushing it again so it beeps just verfies the system is activated. Acces the MID menu and it is an option to have the beep on or off.

One click of the key fob locks and initiates the security system. Clicking twice just give you a courtesy beep in case you don't want to look to see your lights blink - you don't get added security. It would be nice if this were programmable to make the beep a default but its not.

The second beep actually lets you know that everything is closed. If the trunk or one of the doors is open, it will not beep. Yes the system arms on the first lock.

The MID menu is located in the instrument panel (lower right side). On the 3GTL there are arrows. Just push the arrows and navigate to get to this particular area.

You don't have a MID to look at because you have a 2001 TL. You should be posting in the 2G TL forum instead of here when you have questions or comments about your car.

Thank you for letting me know where to post my thread. I am still very new to this forum and don't know where things are and how do sort my questions out. Thank you for your input!
