Turning radius on 07's

My '04 has the turning radius of an x-large Ford F-150. Maybe even worse! Does anyone know if it's improved on the newer models?

My '07 Type S seems like it has a similar turning radius to my '06 TSX, if not a tiny bit better. Neither car is all that great, but I suppose it could be worse. One of the worst turning radii I remember was on a Dodge Avenger (made by Mitsubishi)... you'd hit a lock at a point where you'd expect another full turn of the wheel.

Its not THAT bad, haha. However, I read ini Car and Driver I think a review of the 3G Acura TL and they said that the turning radius was one of it's pros

No noticable improvement.

'07 TL-S = 39.7'

'02 TL-S = 40.0'

Don't know about the 3G non-S.

Here's the Non-S 3G (2007):

Steering Ratio (:1), Overall 15.4
Lock to Lock Turns (Steering) 2.8
Turning Diameter - Curb to Curb 39.7 ft
Turning Diameter - Wall to Wall N/A

It's a limitation of front wheel drive. Another reason the drive wheels should be in the rear.

oh, believe me. this car has the best TR of any other front wheel drive car i have owned, not driven but owned. i can actually make illegal u-turns in this car, its crazy. but its just the downside of a fwd car. my last car was a 95 monte z34, and that thing required like a ten point turn in order to get out of any parking space. i am happy to be rid of that problem. i think in consumers report the TR is one of the only negatives.

Not sure if that's true for all cars. The Legend's radius was AMAZING... but boy did that wheel turn and turn and turn. It like never ended. But the radius was amazing.

I did however see some amazing radius in a BMW 3 series. The other vehicle that was amazing was the new Explorers. WOW. I was like who needs to learn 3 point turns when you got radius like this.

Yeah the TL turns like a truck, I guess a limitaiton of FWD. I owned a 04, 06 adn 07TL and all turned the same. I drove a 07 G35 the other day and was amazed how tight it turns.

that's actually not true. FWD cars have a tendancy to have a better turning radius than RWD cars (especially 4 wheel drive vehicles). smaller FWD cars have a very good turning radius, so i wouldnt call it a limitation due it being FWD.

My 2001 Grand Prix has a smaller radius than my new 2007 TL. The bigger turning radius of my TL is the one thing I dislike about the car. I am so used to my Grand Prix than I am constantly having to adjust when I drive the TL.

The turning radius on the TL is pretty bad, probably worse than my Buick and they have about the same wheelbase. Size doesn't always matter though. For some reason, most BMWs and Mercedes have a very good turn radius. My friend has a CL65 and it turns much, much sharper than the TL. Surprisingly sharp.

While agree the TL's turning radius is pretty lousy, I don't think the FWD is fully to blame. My previous car (1993 Mazda 626 ES V6) was FWD and had a much better turn radius: 34.6 feet. I was surprised after buying the TL that I couldn't park in my usual space in the parking structure at work without having to do a multipoint turn. In my Mazda, I just whipped right on in.

I'm curious why the RL has the same turning radius, even with SH-AWD. It's not much bigger than the TL.

Accorcing to Wikipeidia:

Advantage of rear wheel drive:
Steering radius - As no complicated drive shaft joints are required at the front wheels, it is possible to turn them further than would be possible using front wheel drive, resulting in a smaller steering radius for a given wheelbase.
