Well, couldnt you install a jumper in the fuse box, im not sure if it has its own fuse. That might turn off the whole thing, not just the screen. But why the hell would you want to turn it off?

Just don't enter "OK" when the screen comes on or any other commands and it should blank itself after 60 seconds or so.

It just gets distracting after a while. I see no need to watch the odometer rolling or the other things that can be dispalyed the entire time while driving.

What i was hoping for was something similar to then ability of the NAV system to go dark.....make sense?

What the hell are you talking about? When you start the car, the only thing on the display is "Trip Computer". If you don't touch the select button, this is all you will see. This should not be very distracting, and it doesn't move.

You are talking about the MID screen below the fuel and temperature gages, right?

As a matter of fact, this is one of the best features on the car, IMO. I also find it distracting, so I love it that all I see is "Trip Computer". Some people don't like that it always reverts to that screen when you start the car, but it works great for me.

If you have it set to the odometer, it will always be visible when starting the car again. But if you have it set to the trip computer selection, when you turn off the key, the next time it will only show "Trip Computer". Sometimes people get odometer and trip computer confused.

I've never heard anyone mention that the trip computer setting reappeared when starting again. Could it be the fact that you have Navi which causes this. I do know there have been several comments from people who wished it would stay on the trip computer screen if that is the last screen it was set at.

Anyvody know for sure?

Thanks for the confirmation. I still think people are confusing odometer with trip computer, and also don't know how to change the odomoter to trip computer so the numbers abd rolling stuffs won't be visible when you turn on the key.

I'm with you!! People around here will tell you to just wear your seatbelt, or blast you for not wearing it, but IMO, the reminder chime is a total annoyance!!!!

Beep three times maybe....and then shut the @^!@#$*&# UP!!!!

After all, it's up to me if I decide to put my seatbelt on. I should not have to have my car annoy the crap out of me because I choose not to wear it!! It's a free country!

Some may say, well it's the law....and that's fine, but it's a law I disagree with as I'm not putting anyone in danger except myself. The law is just another method of taking in more $$$ in the form of cops writing tickets. Plus, I don't need my car reminding me of laws.

The seatbelt chime is the absolute worst part of this car!!

P.S. To answer your question....No, you can't. lolol

I acutally got used to wearing seatbels after the crackdown a few months ago. Niether me nor my parents ever wore seatbelts before that. Glad to see the law did something good. If i dont put on a seatbelt now, i feel uncomfortable and almost naked.

If you'd ever seen a wreck where the vehicle occupants weren't wearing a belt, and had a roll-over, or were ejected from a vehicle, or ate the windshield, you'd realize how good an idea it is to wear a seatbelt ...

the fact that you don't wear a belt and you get into a wreck, become a vegetable, sit on the machine while your insurance runs out, drive your family into bankruptcy and then become my problem because I'm paying you f'ng hospital bills .... makes me think the law is a good idea ...

and when people who don't wear their seatbelts get in a wreck, get mangled, then try to get their health insurance to pay for it, and my rates go up, yeah it gets to be our opinion and right to voice opposition to you.

I had my seatbelt on, the pretensioners locked as they are supposed to, the airbag never touched me. however my torso went forward between the lap and shoulder belt and still cracked my spine. Still in therapy. On her insurance's dime (BallState)

As a Firefighter I say wear your seatbelt, I too find the buzzer annoying. If you are moving the car in the driveway or puttering across a parking lot it is easy to leave it off. But I have seen to many faces destroyed from not wearing one and even had one save my life in a crash when I was 22 years old. The laws are made to protect, sometimes the infringe on our god given right to do stupid stuff but they are there for a reason.
As far as the MID goes, I like leaving it on the trip setting but hate that it reverts back to the trip screen on start up, also wish it had an instant MPG function. But hey its your car and your life.... good luck. Hopefully I wont find you in your windshield one day!!
