TSX Navi or TL Non Navi
Hi guys.I havent posted here in a while...Decisions decisions....I am considering buying either a navi tsx or a non navi tl and am having a heck of a time deciding.
I am upgrading from my cls. I love the drive of the tl..(although the torque steer is a little much on bumpy roads but still fun as hell)
I like the looks of it as well but I prefer the clean lines of the TSX and I actually like the interior of the tsx a little better(navi has a huge influence here).--of course I would be going six speed on either...I could get a great deal on either one. I cannot get a good deal on a navi tl let alone find one. I know this is TL forum but I am sure you are all acura fans in general. I was considering accord for a while but decided to stick with acura. I know the tl rocks but the tsx is very cool too...plus navi to me is huge. Any feedback would be appreciated. I may even make a decision today!

Well, if you like the "clean lines of the TSX" and you "like the interior of the TSX a little better" and you said, "navi to me is huge"........well, it sounds as if your mind is made up. You'll save yourself some bucks if you go with the TSX. Frankly, I would just buy the car that you like best and from everything you typed - you like the TSX better.
I've only ridden in the TSX with my girlfriend and I love the way it rides and it appears to handle very well too. The only downside, and like I said I didn't drive it, is that to get it up to speed the engine sounded to labor a little bit when pressed hard....of course, I might change the statement entirely if I were actually to drive the darn thing.

I test drove both and considered getting a TSX NAV rather than the TL non-nav (6MT) that I am picking up later this week. However, I think that you have two separate issues going: a) decision about Navigation and b) TL vs. TSX.
So, I recommend framing your question differently: just how important is the navigation system and just how different are the cars, in your mind? (All other things being equal, such as price...)
In my case, after careful thought, I chose against navigation because I would rarely, if ever, use it (although it would be fun.) And, I love maps, but I actually like them in paper form, and would hate to give up my collection.
So, for me it came down to the choice of TL vs. TSX.
I chose for the TL because: a) I thought that the TL was a better vehicle than TSX, though not by a huge amount--better in road manners, better accleration, and equal in agility; and the TL matched my particular needs better; b) the TL's set of features was more better than TSX; c) I wanted a slightly larger car for my two small kids.
Actually, something that you haven't mentioned is a comparison of the sound systems. There are real differences here. Everyone is ga-ga about the TL's DVD-A system, which is great. But, I was actually conflicted about two other factors: TL has XM, TSX does not. TSX has an option (at 1K add-on, if I recall correctly) for a CD Player that reads MP3, WAV, etc., that have been burned on CD. I read the forums carefully on this. Ultimately, I really prefer XM integrated into the car and using an FM converter for my IPOD (as MP3 "compression" already has reduced sound quality...)
In any case, I don't think that you can go wrong. The TSX is a fabulous car. I saw one on the highway in my morning commute--SWEET.
Good Luck

I was considering the TSX too. I decided on the TL in the end because of the power and the looks. Now it sounds like your priorities are different and your tastes are a bit different. If you prefer the looks of the TSX over the TL and you don't mind the difference in power then the nimble smart looking TSX might be the way to go for you especially if you are going to get the navi with it. I don't think you can go wrong either way. I still like the TSX everytime I see one.

I drove them both as well. The TSX is a great car, but the TL is on a whole other level. If the nav is really that important, then go with the TSX. If you prefer a little more sophistication and power, go with the TL.

The TSX is a terrific ride, but these two cars are of completely different character and feel. The TSX handles better, much more tossible, but you sacrifice raw grunt. It has the smoothest I4 I've ever driven, though under stress it still sounds and behaves like a 4. The TL handles heavier, with less roadfeel transmitted through the steering wheel. Plus, if you hit a bump while turning a TL in aggressively, the 6MT's LSD will send a sudden tug to the inside wheel, pulling you deeper into the turn. It only takes just a small counter-response, but it can still give you a bit of an adrenaline rush even after you learn to expect it.
While the TSX needs to have its revs spun up to get some fun responses, the TL's motor is utterly refined, silky smooth, and the grunt is always there if you need it. It doesn't have as much low end torque as a G35, but if you're getting the stick, it won't matter. One downshift and you're flying.
Both cars have terrific interiors, the TL has an amenity or two more and noticeably more room. I think the TSX may have a little higher build quality; I never measured, but to my eye, the TSX appears to have tighter gaps inside and out.
Both cars are great choices. I prefer the TL's styling, power and amenities. Once I drove the TL, I was no longer interested in the TSX. Instead, I was torn between a TL and the better handling G35C. I'm glad I went with the TL, though every time I see a G coupe, I still remember how much fun it was to drive it and I send the driver a thumbs up.

Great responses guys. I am glad no one just put..."get the tl because the tsx has no balls" or something idiotic like that. I do enjoy the acceleration in my cl type S quite a bit. The TL 6 spd felt even faster. I think the issue for me is the styling of the TL--I am not sure if I like it or not(I dont enjoy the crease down the side at all..but maybe it could grow on me..maybe). I am a professional in my early 30's and certainly want an "adults" car not a rice mobile.(which is why I steered clear of the mazda6). The TSX styling I love ---its the engine that I *may* have an issue with.
I am not sure...hence my debate. I love the acura navigation..I think that it is hands down the best. I dont care about the bluetooth as I dont have a bluetooth phone and I already have voice dial. I would say if there was an acura with navigation available for a great price it may sway me towards the tl.----I dunno about you guys but this car shopping makes me lose sleep...lol.
Oh by the way for the ipod owner...I have an Iriver IHP-120 that I use through the Cassette deck and it sounds much better than a fm transmitter.

Thanks for the IPOD cassette tip; I'll look into getting one.
But, hey, doesn't the TSX have the same crease as TL, just a little less pronounced?
(By the way, I just noticed how beautifully my electronic grammar was in my earlier post-- "more better". ....)

well..
Its not the crease its the indentation line that runs parallel to the door handles. I know they have it on Bimmers but I just dont like it...
The ultimate for the ipod or my player would be to have an aux in jack on the front of the stereo. I dunno about the ipod but when I listen to my player with headphones(20 dollar ones at that) It sounds better than any sound system I have ever heard...Iriver rocks.

Owning a 6-speed w/navi, I am bias.
I checked out both cars as well, and I am very happy with the TL. I too really like the TSX! So it wasn't easy to decide.
A couple of things that I really like about the TL are the Brembo's, and LSD. BTW, the TL also comes with a cassette player (for your iPod).
Either way, I'd get the navi. I use mine every day, and can't tell you how much I love it!
Best of luck, and be sure and let us know the outcome

i hate the cassette deck. its absolutely pointless i will never use it. i dunno how many TL owners actually use it. why not include an 8 track player as well. i mean they put dvd-a in the car but said "ah what the heck lets throw in a tape deck". why not something more modern, if not a mp3 player then even minidisc. i would more likely use that than a cassette tape. the ipod with the cassette adapter is bad, i hear the distortion from the tape, also it looks terrible with the cord haging out.

I don't know how much what I think helps since I had the same problem but solved it by just convincing my parents on the bigger Tl with the Navi.
However, if in your situation, I think I might have opted for the TL in any case. The Nav is definetly cool but just thinking about the cars, the TL just felt a lot better to me.
Looks aside, driving the TSX felt like driving my friends Civic, albeit more refined and faster. It just didn't seem to have any weight to it. The motor felt like what it was, a small 4 cylinder.Driving the TL on the other hand feels like your driving something much better put together. It accelerates smoother and just feels better.
On the other hand, having had it less than a week, Im thinking the TSX with the smaller turing circle and just being smaller is more my thing having come from a 350Z.
I dont know, I love my TL. I liked the TSX.
