Trouble shifting from Park

I have a 5AT with 2000 miles on it. I was out last night and when I got into my car and started her up. I could not shift out of Park. My foot was on the brake pedal but it would not shift. Anyway after numerous trys, turning the car off and on again, it finally shifted. Once it had shifted, I noticed I could shift in and out of park without having my foor on the brake. Haven't contacted the dealer yet. Anybody else have this problem?

That sucks... I hope that doesn't happen to me! Has it happened more than once?

Perhaps a faulty Park Shift Interlock Solenoid unit. I have heard of this occuring on some other cars. It's to prevent accidental shifting out of Park without the driver's key in the ignition and your foot on the brake. Should be an easy fix. Good luck and keep us updated.

Were you parked on a hill? I've had that happen on one other occasion when I didn't set the parking brake after parking and the car rolled back a bit until the transmission caught. When I came back a few hours later, it was extremely difficult to get the car out of park, given the weight of the TL sitting on the transmission.

Mine kinda does the same thing. In the morning when I first start the car it seems to "stick" in Park. It usually breaks free without much effort, but it is still very noticiable. I think my baby needs to take a trip to the dealer.

Whenever you park on any incline, make sure you pull the hand brake before releasing the brake...otherwise when ever you shift out of a gear, you grind the gear which can eventually wear it out faster

Yes, parking brake on incline is an excellent idea.. However, you won't "grind" gears (impossible in an AT anyway if you look at how a planetary gearset works), however you do risk damage to the parking pin or shift linkage which sounds like a fun repair...

No car was parked on a flat area. I'm taking the car in Monday. Dealer said it could be a faulty switch on the brake preventing me from shifting. BTW he said he'll have to keep it for the day and they don't give loaner cars unless the car's in for more than a day. Is this usual, no loaners. If so, that sucks.
