Trip from MA to KY planned...

Any advice from those who have taken the TL across part of the country? I plan to get the car inspected (it's been 1 year since I've had my 04 TL!), get the routine maintenance done, and get new tires all within the next two months...

I may just document everything in photos too...just for fun

The TL is for touring luxury, right? I intend to find out for sure how it does

thegabrielles just returned from a 4700 mile trip. you could pm him/her about it.

the longest i've done was detroit to chicago (500 round trip), and i can say it's a nice highway cruiser. i hope you still have XM...

getting the car checked out is a good idea. as is getting new tires. just make sure to do a visual inspection every now and then while on the trip... especially the tires.

Don't forget to set cruise control on 100, like I did on my trip to Yellow stone.

If you have the 6MT, you'll find that the car loves the highway. Put the MID on the first trip computer screen and watch the MPG soar!

I did a 900+ miles trip (NJ to GA) when I had first gotten the car! LOL I just couldn't believe how smooth the car was on highways. It was great! Too bad I couldn't punch it as much as I'd like to since I was still in my break-in period.

If your trip allows, find a piece of road that’s not highway; a nice two lane through some interesting towns. You’ll love the feel of the car in the twisty’s and the looks you’ll get from the locals!

Re-set the trip computer and give a full report when your home.

Safe Driving!

For July 4th, I am planning a drive from NYC to the White Mountains in NH. There will be lots of scenic twisties near Mount Washington/Franconia. Let me see, should I drive up Mount Washington in a 2005 TL or take the locomotive up the steep mountain....?

I don't have MT Maybe next TL will be...we'll see!! I'm still learning in my "spare time"....

I have done the trip many MANY times before...last year was done in a friend's Chevy Malibu....THIS year is the first with the TL...and it will be the FIRST time I travel in style

Thanks for the suggestions though! Keep 'em coming... I still have a month and a half before I go

I drove my 04' TL A-Spec from Dallas to Burlington, MA and back to Dallas and could not have been more comfortable. The XM helped so that I did not get too bored w/ the music and the GPS only had (1) flaw when I was in NYC. I am currently in Burlington now on business and leasing a 05' Ford Mustang. Not too bad, but definitely NOT an Acura TL. Enjoy your journey!

I've taken my car on several long trips, and many short ones. The longest was a nearly 3k mile round trip from home to Colorado and back last year. I'm planning this again in a couple of months, this time with my Valentine One on the windshield--Kansas is just too bloody boring to drive the speed limit through. The last long trip was from home to Georgia seven months ago. This car is an excellent luxury cruiser, even with the A-Spec suspension. When those twisties come up on the freeway, you can let loose and have a little fun. But back to your question....

Buy a clear bra so the rocks are less likely to ding your ride during the trip. Rocks at high speed + your car coming up to high speed rock at high speed + weak Acura paint=paint chips.

The White Mts. are beautiful! A great car trip… I skied (fell) down Tuckerman’s Ravin and rode my mountain bike up one-side of Mount Jefferson and down the other. There may be a law about driving Mount Washington in an automatic transmission car? http://www.mountwashington.com/autor...to-travel.html It would be a fun ride. The Kancamagus Highway (The Kanc) is a fun twisty through the White Mountain National Forest. http://www.yankeecruisah.com/kanc.html Beautiful! A good chance to see a moose and enjoy the suspension on the TL.

Unless it's changed, there is no law against it. On a family vacation when I was in high school we took an automatic Volvo 740 GLE to the top of Mt. Washington. Great drive, BTW, and the whole area is worth the trip. Too bad the Old Man of the Mountain is gone.

Well I made it down in one piece The car too... Would have made it here sooner if I didn't get backed up in CT (big bus fire on I-84).

It was a wonderful trip down here and I have to say I have never made the trip down here without getting a neck or backache...until today..! The XM and Navi performed beautifully as well...

Will post some pics and updates later

I-84 is always a joy...I got to drive from exit 7 all the way to 63 to get from home to school. Waterbury and Hartford are tons of fun! I read about that bus fire in the paper this morning... I used to drive a bus for my job in college - it's amazing (and very good) that no one got hurt. It wasn't even in the direction you were heading and you got tied up...gotta love rubbernecking. At least you weren't headed west-bound, they had it down to 1 lane for 4 hours.

sorry to hear that... the picture from your sideview is really cool, though. it's just too bad you had to sit there to get it.

I also took many trips with my 04TL in the past 22 months. Total mileage is about 9k+ miles. The ride this car has provided during these long trips is much better than my previous GS300/Legend did. The Navi is the big plus, too. XM has me stayed in the same channel all the way.

However, I regret not to have the clear-bra installed. (Although I got the full mask, it's the pain of neck to put/remove it in the rainy days.)

Enjoy the trip!!

Get a bra..... for the car that is. thats a pretty long trip. I'm sure you will run into a lot of trucks kicking up gravel and what not.
