A Trip to the Dealership ....
A Trip to the Dealership ....
So I got a coupon for a $24.95 Oil change, fluid fill ups, nitro fill and car wash. I was almost near the oil change deadline, so figured why not make use of a Saturday morning. 9 am at my scheduled appointment I get there, service tells me there a little loaded so they gave me a 2011 ZDX as a loaner for the day and meet them at 4 pm. With a $56K price tag, I honestly think the car is way over priced. Acceleration actually slower than the TL-S, space OK not anything extra over the TL-S, features all same, Paddle shifters have the same slight lag like the TL-S. Suspension is smoother of course and that was about it.
So anyway, At 3pm I get a call from the Sales Manager that he really likes my car and thinks he can get an awesome price for trade - in. I told him I hate the new TL's but still wouldn't mind the new TSX so he replies he can put me in a 2012 TSX for a couple hundred bucks cheaper than what I pay...
So I pick up my ride from service and check in at sales. They take my ride for a check meanwhile i chose to test drive a 6-speed TSX and a V6 TSX.
I take the 6 speed for a run first.... Didn't even get on a freeway and made a u-turn to the dealer right away. Don't get me wrong, its a great car loaded with goodies and pretty smooth for a manual tranny but I guess I'm spoilt and would like to stick with the V6.
Next I take the V-6 for a spin. Now it's a completely different experience. Car is Quick, Paddle shifter's response is much precise, smooth suspension, steering is much relaxed and ride is nice. What I missed during this ride was the following:
1) Exhaust note when reving high.
2) Interior space is less than the TL-S (even thought the sales guy tried everything to prove that the new TSX is the same size as the 08 TL
)
3) The Navigation and Satellite radio buttons respond late. ( not a big thing, but still u wonder if you pressed the buttons hard enough)
4) The exterior is not as sharp as the 08 TL-S
So anyway, after the test drives, guy tells me the V6 TSX is being discontinued so u might get a good deal. I just shook hands there. Told him straight up, "Dude thanks for everything but honestly, I think I love my car even more now. I understand I might save a 100 bucks on payments and a couple more on Gas, but I still don't see a point in moving from a financed car to a lease and not LOVING what you ride. HE smiles at me and tells me straight up. That combination WDP with Black interior is the most wanted theme. I'm like, YUP ! Don't worry It's not going anywhere
Shake hands and left. When I was backing my car out to leave the dealership, noticed in the rearview mirror 3 sales agent standing at the window staring at my baby like a pack of hungry wolves with their tongues sticking out
... Kissed my steering wheel and prayed to God to keep me and my baby safe from all evil eyes ;-)

Very nice analysis of the 6MT and V6 version of the TSX. I'm on the fence regarding getting that for my next ride or just find another 3G TL. I would love the S, but it's so hard to find one with a 6MT for sale.

The only part where I see something special about his car is it's WDP with black interior.
All the WDPs I test drove here while looking for a TL had black interior

Guess it's not as rare in Canada.
Guitar player, nothing is special about it.
its just a marketing ploy to get him to purchase or lease another vehicle.
while payments might be 100 dollars cheaper, you lost all the equity you already put into the car.
Mani, glad you didnt take the bait.

Auto or Manual, 3G TL-S are like hot cakes... Specially here in South Florida. I had to wait 6 months to get my hands on this one. It was being posted on the dealer's website while I was bargaining the price with the finance manager inside. Another reason, I would say they were drooling over my car is probably cause i just clocked 40k miles. And to be honest, the 3G TL-S has a higher demand than the 4G TL. You can probably search on cars.com and find 3G TL-S going for the same price or sometimes even higher priced than the 4G TL's.
Honestly, I feel like now i have fallen in true love with my veronica :-p and will never let it go :-p

Nice story.
Every time I go to my dealership, the Service Writers tell me that my Type S is famous....
They also see to like the way the paint feels...must be that Griot's Garage Fast Shine.

Interesting story. Almost sounds like the guy wanted your TL for himself. But then again, dealers will do just about anything to get you into a new car. That said, I'm sure they really do appreciate a nice, clean TL after dealing with dozens of neglected cars each day.

I was hoping for that since I was drooling over the specs of the tech package on it! I'm just wondering what's hard about mating that to the V6 transmission.
