I'd do the 3x3 with DW-1 and the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches (which are pretty much a "must do" based upon the feedback from other owners of Honda 5-Speed automatics) and go from there.

Transmission fluids
Just got a 04 white acura tl with 92xxx miles. I don't know much about the service that the previous owner did. So i decided to do a major service including timing belt/transmission flush/coolant/spark plugs....
I checked the transmission fluid color and it's pretty brown so i'm pretty sure i need to flush my transmission. The thing is i don't know what transmission fluid to use. Should i use the
ATF DW-1
Redline racing type f
redline d4
or another brand?
Please state what brand are you currently using and the milage your car currently has and at what milage did you change the transmission fluid.
I've heard many good stuff about racing type f but did the transmission last?
Or should i stick with the oem new dw-1
Please help

The above said, use Honda DW-1 ATF (which replaces the recommended ATF-Z1).

You may want to replace a few of the transmission shift solenoids. Mine got stuck in 2nd on the highway once when I nailed it. I had to get of the highway and shut the car off and restart before it would work properly. Then I replaced 4 solenoids and never had that problem again. I replaced all the little round ones. But only 1 was probably giving me trouble

I am going to switch from d4 to d6. And mix 50% DW1 and 50% D6.
D6 is rated for DW1 replacement per Redlines website https://www.redlineoil.com/d6-atf

by the way, I think these Honda transmissions sometimes will hold a gear because it is bozo. Sometimes just rebooting the computer works if you know what I mean. I think even Honda said somewhere that a computer runs all this stuff, so often communications breaksdown and it just needs a power off and back on , to reset it.. So, maybe there was nothing wrong with my solenoids in the first place? I cannot confirm.. But since I replaced that solenoid switch, I have never experienced ithe transmission forcing the engine to rev high on the highway again... And it has been several years. So who knows! haha
