Trans fluid change

I currently have an 05 TL with only 28000 miles on it, I hardly drive it. I'm wanting to replace the trans fluid with Mobil 1 synthetic. What would you all advise? What do I do about a trans pan gasket, use silicone form a gasket in the tube? Thanks for any advice.

Trans fluid change

Thanks for the quick reply NBP, looks like I want even have to drop the pan. Do you know off hand if I can use a full synthetic Mobil 1 fluid, I mean is it compatible with the Acura fluid or would it hurt it?

and just an FYI...Redline Racing ATF is basically the consensus here. Do a search and you'll see why.

^agreed. go with the better quality fluid (redline racing)

i have also switched to the redline racing/lightweight combo (2:1 ratio)

done two drain/refills already as maintenance. will be doing the third in the spring time. drain/fills are a 15 minute job

I use the Mobil 1 Syntheic in the grey/silver bottle - it says Z1 substitute on the back. It is a Dex/Merc III fluid. To change, you just take the plug out and it will drain. Make sure that the washer is in place when you put the plug back on.

The Mobil 1 Synthetic is a high quality fluid. There is some preliminary evidence that a Type F fluid, like the mentioned Redline Racing, keeps wear to an absolute minimum. However, I doubt that anybody has more than 20-30K on a Type F fluid, so results might be premature on long-term consequences, if any. Read up on the threads and decide if a Type F fluid is right for you, or a Dex III fluid like Mobil 1 or Redline D4. I think that either Dex III or Type F are probably OK although the fluid manufacturers (Redline and AMSOil) don't recommend the Type F in our transmissions.

In any case, almost everybody agrees that the Honda Z1 in not too good of a fluid in the long run. You are doing well to get it out even if you just use the cheap Dex III fluid you can find in any store.
