It's kind of early but it definately won't hurt. Mine (06) only uses a wire mesh internal "filter". Not sure if the 07s got the inline filter or not. If not, definately not a bad idea to change often. I do a drain and refill every 5-10K, installed an inline filter, and a cooler.

if gen3 is the same as 2- you are wasting money on 3 qts
Do it right with 3x3 3 quarts drained and refilled 3 times in a row- thats the most complete change we can do

After a recent conversation with an OE engineer (not Honda), I've been convinced that there's really no need to replace the fluid more often that recommended.

Rarely are failures linked to lack of fluid changes with the recent transmissions. Usually it's a design issue.

Whether the fluid is worn out or not, our cars only have a screen for a filter. It should not be called a filter, it's only for the very big particles. You should change the fluid if only for that reason. My Amsoil ATD is good for over 150,000 miles yet I do a 3qt change every 10K or so just for contaminates. Now that I have an actual filter and cooler I might extend it to 50K depending on how the filter looks when I cut it open.

To each his own I guess. I think a lot of us who are over doing the fluid changes are doing it for peace-of-mind, and really aren't gaining much of a benefit.

The magnetic drain plug is more than enough to capture the contaminants. Toyota AW units have nothing but a coarse metal screen and a pan magnet and last 200k+ miles in the past...and most people never even pulled the pan.

I do agree with you that our main problem is a design flaw. Even so, the big problem was fixed (well maybe not completely) with the oil jet kit, IMO, the next biggest problem is heat and filtration and the shudder. Coolers are cheap and the inline filters are $15 and actually filter the fluid and add additional magnet.

Honda wanted these transmissions to shift smooth to the point I think they compromised reliability over comfort. I'm hoping the Amsoil ATD I'm using will cure that problem. It's slightly thicker and has less friction modifiers. The car shifts crisper but still far, far from harsh. I guess only time will tell. In 100,000 miles I'll either be saying I told you so or I'll be pissed at myself for wasting money on expensive fluids, cooler, and filters.
