Trading up to a type-s?

Lately, I've been regretting my decision to let the dealer sway me into buying a non-nav 08 base. There's a few 6mt type-s still available in my area, but I'm concerned about a number of things.

- Mileage: my car has 11k KMs on it while the type-s has ~44k. Not high at all, but it's still a fair bit higher than what I have.

- Cost: I'd have to cover the difference, because the one I'm looking at is about 33k CDN. No idea if they'll budge, but I've looked up the used car prices and it seems I'll be getting around 28-30k for my car.

- Reliability: How do the type-s 6 speeds hold up? I always hear about problems with the older manual transmissions, but I have no idea about the new ones.

As for the colour and everything, it's WDP, which was my other choice so the colour isn't a concern. There's a ASM 6MT Type-S in the area as well, but I'm not really a fan of that colour. What do you guys think? In this kinda economic climate, is it really advisable to make this trade?

i used to have an 04 TL 6MT with no navi. it sucked and i always regretted it. especially when the type-s dropped. but i finally switched up a couple weeks ago and i couldnt be happier. the type-s 6mt is far superior to the non-s and non-navi ones. you should trade up and go for the WDP type-s 6MT like mine.

Almost everything I've seen a few type-s around here and the styling is just much more appealing to me. Plus, there's the larger engine, the nav, and the 6MT, because I do find the 5AT on the 07/08 to not drive very well (i.e. a little more throttle will cause a noticeable jerk and the car downshifts a gear lower).

i dunno man, this is why one should carefully decide on what they want before they buy.......

going up to a type S = your insurance company will love you even more :P

haha that's true I think I was in too much of a hurry to get the car at the time and ended up getting suckered into it. I mean, the guy almost got me to consider the CSX but it drove like crap.

If you are not happy with your car now when its still new, you never will be. Just get the Type S, WDP is hot. Put a black roof on that bad boy when you get it.

If its the asthetic you are not happy with and the non nav, I belive its cheaper to make the conversion than to get switch up to a type-s. If its the performance then go ahead and change it. I bought a base 07 with nav, still kick myself for not getting a type-s... but i have made a few conversions (exhaust, headlights, tail)....Still would prefer and S

dont try to fix one mistake with another....you have a car that is still fairly new, and you want to trade it in on a used car....44k may not be too high, but its not new either, and you need to pay more money for a higher miliage car....bad idea....i say keep yours and live with it for a few more years and then get a different car...

no matter what car you have your going to want a different car in a matter of a few years....

Guess my only solution is to trade it in for an older model TL with navi and 6MT. There's some 06 around the 50k KM mark which isn't bad at all, and I wouldn't even have to pay more money for it. I'm pretty much still losing some money on it though, since I'd be losing around 39k KM on the resale.

I do not regret not getting a NON S .. becauase it wasn't available when I purchaed in 2006... but I do desire to trade up if it financially makes sense. I have a base with nav and the few additions that the TYPE S has is cool but wouldn't do it for that, its the mechanical/performance I would be after.

What do you guys think about the transmission for those who have driven the auto type-s? There's one in the area I can trade for that wouldn't involve losing much if any (mileage is fairly close to mine, 24k instead of 11), but I'm not really fond of the 5AT.
