Angry Trading my 05 TL for 06 TL, HELP ME!

I bought my 05 tl w/o navi about 4 months ago but i didn't got the navi one that is the only reason i am trading my 05 tl for the 06 with navi. I only put like 1350 miles on it. I went to the dealer to ask about the difference i have to pay, He said between 5 to 6 grand. He said that he going to give me 28 grand for my 05 tl. Is it good or not. Let me know what are your options on this. I am regreting my self everyday and on top of that my friend just got an 06 accord ex v6 with navi it just makes me jealous.

I think you're going to get the short end of the stick no matter how you get rid of your '05, after only such a short duration of ownership.

A more mature way of dealing with this is to enjoy the car you bought, and not let jealousy or envy get the better of you. You'll survive without Navi. Just get it on your next car when it's a more reasonable time to trade in your current car.

WOW! Your dealer offered you $28K? Mine only offered me $25K for 05TL w/Navi. SO I kept my 05. Didn't feel like a $625 car payment.

I hate to say it, but you may be screwed here. Your options are to sell it yourself (more $$$ but more effort) or to take the dealer's deal.

So you took a car home and put 1350 miles on it, and didn't even know how much you were going to have to cough up?

You usually get those facts and figures straight before taking a car. I'm very confused.

I agree with everyone else here, that if you want to trade in for a new car after only having yours for a year, you're going to pay. Gotta pay to play!

I got $25k for my 04TL non-navi with 33K on it from my dealer. They charged me $33.7 for the 06TL NAvi with mud-guards, wheel locks, and deck lid spoiler. So I was able to swap up for an increase in $5 in my monthly car payment. I was lucky to get my 04 TL for 2.9% financing back in Feb 04. And I found a credit union that offers 3.9% now.

So you didn't put anything more down on the car. You did a straightup swap for an extra $5 a month? Nothing down, or did not go to a longer loan term?

That doesn't make sense.

Nothing more down. The resale on the 04 TL versus the pay down rate was excellent, basically there was over $4000 in equity in the car over 21 months. I financed about $31k on the 04, owed $20.5 that left $4.5k in equity applied to the 06. They of course over paid for my 04 to get their price to come down the last few hundred they were off by. I put no additional cash out of my pocket other than the equity built in the 04 TL. Carmax offered me $24.4k for the 04 and the dealer gave me $25k since they were about $700 higher than I wanted the price of the 06 to be, they play that game where they give you more for your trade so they can keep the sale price higher on paper. I figure I paid around $33.3k for the car which is about $500 over invoice and that does not even incude the deck spolier whihc they said their cost is aroun $400 on, but I could not verify that. In the end I am actually financing $30.2k and the payment went up $5 a month. While I have mixed feelings about Honda and their crappy ACS, there is no arguing that the TL is a great value for the money and the resale shows it. My I30 and I35 had excellent resale at the 2 year mark but no where near as good as my 04 TL. Even though the 06 still has the buzzing back deck, I will get that fixed. And I have been told the 06 dash will fade as did my 04, but I figure I will only keep it 2 years and if the resale is similar I will worry about what to get then. Maybe the new G35 will be somehting to look at.

Dude.....your in a lose - lose situation. Once you take possession of the car you lose money. Buy a Garmin C330 it works very well. Small and and its only around $600. Yes I know it doesn't have the features of the TL Navi but its cheaper than going down the road your going.

I can relate to your situation. I did the same thing you're thinking about three weeks ago. I couldn't be happier with my 06 with Navi (traded my 05 non-navi with 8500 miles). You should do what feels right for you.

yeah, but are you $5-6 grand jealous ??? is the navi really worth that much to you (yes, i understand that you are also going up 1 year and that is worth something too).

but, do what feels right to you.... as long as you do not sacrify other more important things.

good luck, mark.

That's sounds like an awesome deal. This is my first Honda product and I'm amazed at how well it holds its resale value. I'm coming from last half dozen cars being Mercedes and Audi which didn't hold their value very well.

^^ Probably the best deal. As big a fan of Navi as I am, the difference for 1 model year adn Navi isn't worth a 5-6 grand hit to the wallet!
Now you know, MAKE SURE you get Navi on the next car. By then they'll have the traffic reports like the RL has, and who knows what else.

atit--It isnt worth trading in your car for navi.If you REALLY want navi just get the parts and have it installed.
This guy did it for like 2000 and I believe he upgraded some of the stereo components as well. I regret not getting Navi but I have a portable nav that does the job. Hopefully in 07 there will be full ipod integration and I will trade my car in then....perhaps AWD as well.
Check this guys setup...

It surely suprosed me. If you look at my older threads I am eating crow now, I swore I woudl never own another Honda. The fit and finihs issues as well as various noises from the car and the lack of ACS concern made me swear them off. But when they offered me that much and the car is truly a fun car to drive I figured I'll try a 06 and at worst case I'll have the same issues and dump it in 2 years and hoe the G35 replacement is better. At best case they found a way to quiet doen the interior for 06 and I'll drive it a few years. One observation I have made is thet the fit of the body panels and such is no where near as good as my I30 or I35 were, not sure if this is due to Made in USA or just poor design.

Anyone have any experience on which dealership in the NY area (NY, NJ, CT...etc) would be able to give me the best trade in value on my 05 non-navi TL...just got it last week...about 100miles on it, so that I can trade up for the 05 or 06 with Nav

why Pay $6000 for navigation...that sounds impulsive...and sounds like someone who needs to have the latest greatest. I recommend training yourself to be more discipline. You want navi? Get it w/ the next car. Don't punish yourself and lose $$$$ over a bell or a whistle. I love my navi...but I have to tell you...before I owned my TL...I would look at the car on the road and consider all the research i have done on this car class...and I would think that the driver of that car made a samrt choice in that TL (navi or no Navi). You are negating the value in your 05' TL by trading in so damn early and eating the depriciation in less that 1500 miles. Unwise...and impulsive. Who is to say you aren't going to need to feed your new car fix in another 6 months? If you have the spare cash to keep on tradin g up and losing dollars...by all means. You might as well let your dealer put a sucker wrapper over your head and stick his dick in your ass.

I can relate to your "agony" of losing $5k if you trade in your '05. I bought my TL 3 months ago, and the trade they offered for my '04 Sequoia make me just keep the gas guzzler for now (it's paid for and I didn't want to take a $14k hit in depreciation....). I've heard navi doesn't help much on resale value, so if you choose to take the $5k hit realizing you won't get much more when you sell the navi, that's up to you . You might consider selling the '05 yourself and make a couple extra grand, then buy the new TL with navi. Good luck.

I agree with an earlier post... Just get an aftermarket GPS system and it's good to go. Not worth losing the $5k. That is, unless you can afford to just throw cash around like that, in that case, get whatever you want!

Well this entire thread backs up the fact that once your drive it off the lot you lose 5,000 bucks. Or in this case about $3.70 per mile. If you got cash to toss go out and get a jetski...

as for the 04 deal, I can see where it was ok it all depends on a lot of factors since as I recall the G's resale was a tad better than the TLs. Also acura knows their products. If they become rattle traps because of poor process, they will lower the trade deal. Another aspect is when you work a trade sometimes they add to the trade and keep the retail price of the new car. So in this case the trade in might have looked better than it actually was.

If you financed your '05, you be screwed because you'll be upside down, especially if you financed 100%. Interest has to be repaid to the bank as well as the principal. You are better off waiting another 18 months. Perhaps by the next model year there will be improvements to the TL such as AWD or RWD? Then you will have an awesome car with navigation. Until then, go buy a TOMTOM 700.

I now am slapping myself on the back for NOT listening to the dealer salesman as he was PUSHING Non-navi units on me like cheap whores when I went into buy/negotiate. Stated there was much more "wiggle room" on that model. As I had the consumer reports new car price guide - I knew how much difference there was....they just HAD more of those and wanted to unload em. Fortunately I told him right off....Navi was an option that I had to have and stuck to it. I just saw my deal sheet yesterday while cleaning office...I paid 33,600 for mine with locking lugs, mud guards, trunk tray. As I recall.....this was about $700 or something over their cost after figuring in a holdback that was listed.

Install a navi unit on your 05...look in the Audio subforum on how to convert a non-navi to a navi.
