Traded in the TL for a new toy

Had a good run with my TL. Longest I have ever owned a car (almost 4 years). Finally traded in my 04 SSM 6MT with 123k. Decided to go with a 2013 Tacoma double cab TRD. For those whom are interested in the trade in value for it (non-nav), I was given 6k with two accidents. If it weren't so clean I would have gotten less.

Towing firewood and anything else with the TL was just getting silly and NY winters aren't getting any better these days. I had planned to buy the truck at the end of the year but I ran across a great deal on the Taco. Found one in the colors and options I wanted with only 480 miles. Long drive to get it but worth it. New truck minus the "drive it off the lot" depreciation.

Amazing how "Luxury" features have trickled down into the average vehicle. The only features I lost compared to the TL were heated/power seats, mirror defrosters, bixenon, and one auto window. Also the sunroof, but I never used it anyway. The 4WD will be way more useful.

I will definitely miss the TL as it was my favorite car. They are sending it to a wholesaler so it will probably show up someplace sooner or later for sale. Will be listing some wheels and exhaust parts on the BM sometime soon.

I only have one dusty picture of the Taco so far because I have been having tons of fun driving it around. I'll still be lurking around the forums, just a natural habit to stop here every day or so.

If I were to get a truck it would be a tacoma, at least youre being practical. I was offered $9k for my 04 but I have 68K miles, and I was looking at a new A4 so Im sure they planned on getting their money back somehow

What I did was something different.

Still have the TL, but I picked up a SUV - Toyota Highlander. So when I need something more burly I drive the HL. Definitely satisfies my "truck" need.

Congrats, I always liked the crew cab Tacos in white. Going to need a truck soon as the TL isn't really that good for hauling house mods. Not a bad trade in either. When I was looking at getting into another TBSS I was offered 9k for my 06 w/ 70k.

Is yours the Off-Road Package or Sport Package?

My dad plans to get a new Double Cab/V6/6ft. bed/Sport Package/with Navigation in Pyrite Mica color.

Awesome trucks!

This one is a Double Cab V6, TRD Sport Short bed in Magnetic Grey. I would have liked the Off Road but I don't plan to be romping out in mud pits with the thing, so the e-locker is not really necessary for me. If I hadn't found this truck with the low low mileage, I would have ordered one with the Off Road pack. I thought the backup camera was silly at first, but it will come in handy for hitching up the trailer when it is loaded.

Should be a lot more pleasurable to be towing with this instead of the TL Won't have to take little baby loads of firewood either to stay under 2000lbs.

Fiance forgot how much she loves Taco's so she's probably going to get a Taco Limited in a year or so once she puts more miles on her car.

Congrats! The Tacoma is an excellent truck. My dad traded his 2000 Tacoma on a '12 TRD sport. They are surprisingly quick.

I know what you mean about the NY winters. After all this winter has brought (so far...) I'd briefly considered trading in my TL-S for a 2008-2010 Ridgeline...lol.

I have all 2014 summer/fall to think about it haha.

Nice Taco

My dad recently traded in his modded 06 Prerunner Sport with 93k, and still got more than what I paid for my brand new civic

Yeah. My mom loves SUVs and Trucks. So my mom intends to keep my dad's current 99 Taco TRD off-road 2WD one and my dad rides in a new one.

But my mom loves the navigation and camera plus the sport package so she wants it all when she borrows his truck.

We'll see what my parents decide on because my mom is thinking of moving up to fully loaded Limited but I tell her don't bother as it will be my dad's primary work truck. Summer is fast approaching and my parents are ready for an upgrade.

Personally I could never see buying a newer Toyota Tacoma. They're great trucks but I could never see getting one past 2008 or so. With a 2013, you're paying new car (or almost new car) money for what is basically the same truck Toyota was selling 10 years ago. Whatever makes you happy though.
