Trade in value

I have a 1998 Accord EX that I would like to trade in when I purchase my TL.

It is in good condition. It has leather and CD player. Power Driver Seat. 98,000 miles currently.

What would be a fair amount for trade in.

Thanks!

Most dealers I know of use this to evaluate trade-ins.

Actually, IRCC, most dealers use the "black book", a book which shows prices brought at _wholesale_ auctions. This tends to be much more accurate for dealers.

Thanks for the replies.

KBB tells me that it is $5,740.

I'm thinking the dealer will give low ball me something lower than this.
How much should I ask for? Would asking for $6,000 be a bit high?

Thanks!

If you can, sell it yourself to a private party rather than trading that in, you'll get more money back.

No matter what trade-in value you ask from the dealer, they will try to haggle you down. There's nothing wrong with going in a bit higher that KBB, in my opinion. In your case, $6000 is a good start, but go in knowing it's very unlikely you'll get that much.

This is the first I've heard of the "black book", but I'm sure it does exist. I brought up KBB because the last two cars we've bought, every dealer we negotiated with said they based their trade-in on it. They could be blowing smoke up my a** for all I know.

Good luck!
