To Trade or Not: 2006 WDP Acura TL -> 2007 WDP Acura TL-S
Okay I've seen the TYPE S all over this thread. Right now I have a 2006 Acura TL with about 4800 miles on it. I also have the 8 year/120000 mile warranty on it with $0 deductible (is this transferable to the new car?). Do you think it's worth it to trade it in for the 2007? How much is the 2007 Type S going for? What is the best price for the Type S at the moment? What do you guys think? I have not done any mods yet and its simple to change the nav hack and trip mod back to normal.

2) Most people seem to pay close to sticker for the Type S, currently, but a few have done better.
3) You will lose several thousand on the trade in.
Its your $, but as an owner of an 05 TL, I would not consider it as I think its overpriced for the features you get, in my opinion.

I second that, you have less than 5k miles on it I say just wait until the 4g come out and enjoy your ride

Thanks for the input. I was just so tempted for the Type S after seening it all over the threads. I hated myself to purchase my car a little too soon (I love it and all), but I still got it for a very good price. Thanks for putting some sense into me.

was on the same boat as you when I saw the type-S....After I sold my other car over the summer I told myself I would buy a replacement car at the end of 2006, but after test driving and comparing cars, I couldnt resist it and got my 06 WDP TL. Right now shes 4 months old with 1400 miles on her.

Long answer - You bought a long-term warranty and now want to "switch out" to a TL-S? That "long term" warranty was a commitment you made back when you bought it. I think the cost of something like that is $1,200 or something similar, right? The ONLY reason you buy THAT particular warranty is if you are concerned about service AFTER the standard 48-month/50K mile warranty expires. So there another $1,200. In short, there is NO point in trading out that this point.

Don't do it. I was in the same dilemna, but I sold my 2001 CL. I am still without a car, but for me to dish out all that dough mid-model cycle, would put me in regret when you know the 2009 TL will be an even better deal. I don't know about you guys, but I cannot buy a car and make payments while a newer better version comes out. I mean, if you can time it to buy a car every 5 years (which is typical) then get the car when it Debuts. Yeah, there is a small chance it will have the 1st year bugs which may or may not be an issue, but at least a 60 month term for payments will not overlap with the redesigned generation coming out when your payments are done.
After test driving the Type S TL, I decided to wait till the 2009 comes out, and for now I will get the much depreciated 2003 CL 6 speed with Navi. I can still pimp it to some degree, and a set of wheels / kit / drop / IHE / even a full trick paintjob will still come out to way less than the ATL-S and the CL is a keeper in my opinion since it has been discontinued.

Dont do it.... I agree with all the above reasons, and for less than 1k in mods you will have the ability to make the 07 TL-S driver say WTF! and that is priceless.
Oh yeah, you should move the RSB to the top of phase one!

I traded my 04 Silver TL (Auto with NAv), it had 66,000 miles on it on a 07 Type S, they gave me 26,600 on trade..New one was 39,200. The car is a scream, very fast and the paddle shifters are great along with the growl of the exhaust.

Wow!
Virtually no one recommends the trade (19 of 20 anyway)... Very surprising, and very bad news for Acura, if they were hoping on snagging a lot of TL converts...
Interesting... My guess is that the 07 TL-S will befall the same fate as the 06 RL... Discount city in a few months... especially with the 07 G35 out there...
Time will tell...

^^^^^ I think no one is recommending this particular trade-in specifically, that is not necessarily the case when someone would be less upside down in the deal. This one is just to big of a financial hit in most peoples opinions and rightly so!

DO IT!!!!!
(not really, i just like playing devils advocate.) I'm gonna wait for the 4G (but if it's FWD and not SH-AWD or RWD - which I'm assuming it is based off of everything here) i'm getting an 6-series

My MAIN problem with the new TL_S are those "BUTT-UGLY" rims they put on there. If I do trade out, those will be the first to go. I wonder what the black market value of those puppies might be? I know there are a number of people on here switching out parts to make their older 04TL's "look" like the newer TL-S (even buying fake badging and such). In theory, that may make for a lucrative sedonary market for those BUTT UGLY rims...LOL!

Thanks a loy everyone for your comments. I guess its one of those JUST GOT TO HAVE feelings. But yeh its better to enjoy and wait for the 4Gens
Regarding the 8yr 120k this was the highest they offered me and im pretty sure they wont offer any higher. If you were to get the warranty make sure to do some research on the pricing of it.
