CA Emission Standards Question

I am looking to get a TL, and the one I want is in CA. Is there a difference between what is sold in CA and what is sold everywhere else in the US?

Thanks,
Tippy

That's a very interesting question. I don't think there's any difference in TLs sold in California versus TLs sold in the other 49 US states. Maybe someone here can correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe the only difference would be the smog equipment on the car. The TL qualifies as a ULEV (ultra-low emissions vehicle) so California probably can't require anything else -- but hey, who knows, in this crazy state.

Here is a link to a PDF of my California smog test report, which shows all the "Emission Control Systems" equipment that California requires (visual inspection) and the actual test results compared to the standards ("Max" and "Ave"). If you compare this to a smog report from your state you can determine if the California test is more rigorous.

Good luck!

I bought my TL in PA and brought it to CA and had no problems getting Emissions passed so there's no extra equipment. The only thing may be that there's a different Emissions standard in CA than another state. May be the reason why when you price out the TL online, it specifies CA Emissions.

I do not believe so. The same car is tested in different states to see if it passes emissions standards. CA has the highest standard (read lowest max emissions output).

for certain cars maybe, not the TL. Our TL already qualifies for ULEV II (not I)

The TL is 50 states compliant. Every new car I can think of is that way now.
