Track Day w/ 2005 TL

I posted this vid in another thread but thought I'd share with the non 3rd generation crowd.

Video is broken up into two parts but here's the cliff notes: Me trying to keep up with an E30 and passing a few cars while trying.

The E30 is a stripped (2,400 lbs) 1989 325is with a S52 engine from an E36 M3, s50 intake manifold, zf tranny from a '97 M3, SS brake and clutch lines, 520maf, 3.25 lsd, headers and exhaust (no cat).

My mods are in my sig. I was running Nitto NT-05's and Hawk DTC-60 pads.

Thanks. Tires held up great. I've had about five track days on these (two at Watkins and three at NHMS) so far. Still plenty of tread left.

Ever considered getting a set of semi-slicks on some lighter wheels?

Anyways, it looks like you did a great job keeping up with that E30. I'm also amazed at how the owner's managed to put a lot of E36 stuff into it.

In keeping up with the E30 you've passed:

E36
E36
Fiero
E92 M3
Porsche 944
Dodge Viper
Volvo S40?
335i
E36

Coming across the line in the second-last lap in the second video, WOW that was quick. And the supercharger whine:

Have you ever visited a dyno? I'd love to see how much you're putting down

I'm running Volk RE 30's which are 16.5 lbs and the tires are Nitto NT-05. After I use up this set, I'm going with the NT-01.

I'm not complaining with that list. The car puts down about 304whp and 267 wtq on a Land and Sea dyno.

I didn't notice PCDs listed on your mods, you should get those next, that will be an additional 18whp or so.

Sounds tempting but at this point, I'm pretty happy with the power. Besides, if there's one thing I've learned at the track, it's that power isn't everything.

At this point, I'd rather spend money on better suspension. Also looking at some aftermarket seats for support and weight loss.

Sounds like you're well ahead of the game.

I'd be very careful choosing aftermarket seats. Most of them are hardcore onepieces that are pretty rough on the street. Considering this is your DD (I'm assuming), comfort should still play a huge part in your decision.

Have you considered retrofitting seats from another production sports car? I don't know if it's been done before, or if it's practical, but something like the Viper's or S2000 seats could be a nice compromise.

You should go to one of the events! I just signed up for an snow driving event with the Audi club in January. It's not at the track but should be lots of fun. Let me know if you're interested.

I've been looking at different ones. I don't want a solid one piece - as you said, could be pretty rough on the street. I'm leaning towards the Corbeau CR1. It's reclining and should be OK on the street...not as comfortable as stock but acceptable. Even has the option of getting them heated which I may do for the winter time.

Anyone have any experience/opinion on these?

Did you remove you back seats?

Its fast and easy to do, and would remove A LOT of weight!

Good job on the track keep it up!
