AYS? Its all about if you can mount a hitch to the frame without damaging it. People pull far heavier loads with much smaller motors all the time.

I remember a guy who towed 2 motorcycles with his TL about 1000 miles if I remember correctly. Personally I wouldnt do it, I would wait till I have a truck available.

The TL is not tow rated, meaning no towing. Even the tire sticker on the driver's door post indicates that the combined weight of passengers and luggage should never exceed 895 lbs.

Meh, why not? Frame is probably fine for it and the V6 will give more than enough grunt to pull a couple thousand pounds.

I wouldnt do it. You'd be better off renting a UHaul or something with a hitch instead of putting stress on your car.

There's the answer, weak point-drive train.

Given that it is a 6MT, the OP will have slightly bigger brakes and a transmission that isn't made of glass. If you can get a hitch on it that is rated for the tongue weight you need, I don't see any problem.

maybe if you had a manual. I know a guy with a 1985 honda accord who towed a trailer and motorcycle. So the V6 and a manual should handle it.

Hey, nobody said it couldn't be done, just not recommended. Come to think of it, most on here do things that aren't recommended by the manufacturer, so join the group and give it a go.

I would NOT tow on mountain roads and long assents, but on flat roads you will be fine. Just take it easy and if the drive is hilly then get the truck.

Chances are if hes going to upstate NY hes hitting some fairly hilly areas....that would be the biggest concern obviously.

+1 on the above.

Also, if something were to happen, even if it was not your fault, the fact that TL is not cleared for towing may be an issue from a liability/insurance standpoint.

Go for it. I towed a large 3 person wave runner with my 6-speed TL on a 400 mile trip (one-way) and I didn't have any problems. Gas mileage wasn't even that bad either. I probably would not have done it if I had the automatic though or if there was a ton of stop and go traffic, but loading it into the water was no problem. Just don't trust that TL e-brake and get out of the car when putting them in the water.

edit: I bought this hitch http://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitc...cleid=20047031
It was easy to install and is very solid.

It's not really a matter of whether or not it has the power, it does have the power for it. Nothing is going to break, not the trans, not axles. There will be less load on the front of the car, the tires will spin easier under acceleration. The Brembos will be worked hard but should hold up as long as it's driven correctly.

What I would worry about is the TL's light ass end. It would be easy for that trailer to push it around under braking or even freeway speeds. I would keep a very safe following distance and bring it up to speed slowly the first time out on the freeway.

Motor=Yes. Tranny = No.

I tow skis all the time and i would not attempt it with the TL. the load will be much heavier then the numers posted, unless you considered the posted numbers are Dry weights.

^^^ nevermind...i missed the fact you have the 6MT. I'd say go for it, but take it slow due to the poor handling. Since I'm sure you'll be taking it very easy, I'd try not to have a lot of tounge weight...I don't think the rear of the TL will handle it too well.
