In my mind, that car is a write off. Looks like your frame is twisted pretty substantially. You don't just bolt on a new rear quarter panel. You can replace them, but it's going to cost a lot of money, especially since the rest of the car has to be straightened. Even IF it could be repaired for a decent price, I would ditch it all together. The value of that car has gone down big time since the carfax will show a big repair on it, as well as, I don't know if it will drive as nicely as it did before. Cars are never the same after a big impact like that.

it's sad to see another type s go down.

the problem is you cannot get a compatible car with the insurance money.

that is just you paying for the same thing twice...

it used to be that if the other driver did not have insurance, your policy picked up the tab and you did or didn't pay deductible depending upon the policy you had. then it changed to UIM coverage and everyone gets bent over...

Don't take the first offer they give you for it! Id check out the value on NADA.com and get as close to that as you can. I totaled an 02 accord and got $1000 more for it than they offer me at first. They're gonna try to give you a cash price for it, but its not being sold to an individual, so go eff them foos! NADA.com man, life saver.

Saying it'll never drive the same isn't necessarily true. Its not a full framed vehicle, its a unibody structured vehicle, so the frame rail can be repaired or replaced (if it even needs it). If the shop has a good frame machine/measuring system, they can put it back exactly where it needs to go. So that, in my opinion isn't the case. I'll bet the car fixes and is just fine after the repairs.

I would say not totaled

If it's just that corner, it's not totaled or anywhere near it. What I can't see is how bad that left quarter is. It looks like it will have to be straightened or replaced. Can you open the left rear door? Mine was hit something like that -- bumper, reinforcement, taillight, deck lid, a little straightening on inner structure and trunk floor, but nothing on the quarter. It was about $2500 at first class shop with all new Acura parts. Even if the quarter and unibody damage (you have probably crushed the rear rail over the wheel opening) add up to another $1500, you're still nowhere near a total loss. Plus, rear end damage is fairly simple to fix -- no big mechanicals back there to mess up. Don't worry -- it will be like new. Just find an excellent shop.

Well guys, it's official, total loss and they offered (and I accepted) 21.6k. I didn't even fight it because that's exactly what I wanted.

If anyone is wondering, my insurance company is State Farm. I'll miss my TL, but I'm excited to go car shopping!

I'm a bodyman and I can tell you I've seen cars come in that were way worse, you have some rear end frame damage in the left rear quarter (gas door side panel is buckled) but many high name body shops have frame pullers, they can straighten that out in a jiffy, the tail light from an aftermarket supplier, probably TYC (because of the cars age it won't be OEM parts unless you pocket out the difference), pull an aftermarket bumper or visit a scrap yard and find an OEM replacement and the tail light and trunk too.

The part I would be worried about is the exhaust, check your J-pipe for damage and check the down pipe bolts on the manifold. If it was hit hard enough and depending on how long you were driving the vehicle at temperature the block could be cracked.

If you get scrapyard parts to keep everything OEM (any colour as it needs to be painted anyway) you can probably have that fixed for about $5000 out of your pocket without contacting insurance, however I would highly suggest contacting insurance on that as 5 grand is a pretty penny for someone else's mistake.

My 05 had $8,900 in damage when I got it and it was fixed with all aftermarket parts. drivers door, both front fenders, hood, bumper, left headlight, grille, and windshield were all replaced after it was t-boned from some asshole who blew a red light. It was hit so hard on the drivers side the passenger side fender buckled from impact, had frame damage that was pulled extremely well, alignment is spot on now, aside from the aftermarket panels crappy fitment, its like nothing even happened.

Anything can be fixed, its just a matter of money and time.

If you contact insurance they'll also put you in a rental until it's fixed which should only take about a week if you supply all the OEM parts from a scrap yard.

Insurance companies also look kindly on you putting money out to make it right, they may not even raise your premium if you buy the trunk, bumper, muffler, and tail light.

I hope you get it fixed, its a nice car. Keep us posted on what you get and glad you're okay.

I'm late to the party. I was going to recommend you get another 3G TL-S and still have some $$ left over but the 4G looks nice.

In case anyone is wondering, the CHP report came in and the other driver is 100% at fault, no surprise there. However, my insurance company called to tell me his mom excluded him from her insurance policy so my uninsured motorist policy will kick in and my own insurance will end up paying me for my car, deductible, medical bills, etc.

I just wanted to add State Farm has been pretty awesome through this all, they've taken care of everything in a timely manner and paid me out pretty well on my car. I know I could probably switch insurance companies and get cheaper rates, but for the service I get here, I won't.

Good to hear. Hope your medical record stays clear and nothing nasty pops up from this accident down the road.

Enjoy the new ride!

I have State Farm and love them. I have a "few" claims, including a couple total-loss claims, and they always pay more than I expect. I always have GAP just in case anyways.

P.S: I always wish for a total loss when any of my cars gets damaged. Nothing beats getting a new (different) car.

Nice 4g 6spd.

If your insurance policy had to kick in, does that affect your premium? The insurance business isn't always about at-fault expenses. It's all about risk assessment.

They said because I was not at fault my premium will not go up.

It may contribute negatively to your CLUE (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) score, though, which is the system that insurers use to assess your risk.

I was in a similar situation (rear ended by uninsured motorist) and police cited the other driver, I was not at fault, etc.

When I renewed my insurance a year later, my premium went up. Albeit not that much, but they said my risk factor was higher.

Honestly, I still love the way my 3G TL-S looks compared to the 4G. I feel like the 4G doesn't look as sporty.

As far as interior though, all I could say is wow. Interior is really nice, the navi looks so much better than the 3G, the AWD handling is awesome and being able to control gears going up hills makes it so much nicer.

Yeah you're right on that one, I actually got into a minor car accident about 7 months ago and the driver was uninsured and when my renewal came the statement read something about rates going up because of the class of car, it was only by like 3 bucks so I didn't really pay too much attention.

The uninsured accident lottery just keeps hitting me.

Yeah the 3G TL looks much better imo which is why I got one over the 4G.

I'm personally not a fan of newer cars and their "in your face" dashboards. Cars nowadays have these dashboards that really feel like they takeover the front and makes the car feel smaller overall. Just my opinion.

The updated navi is a massive upgrade over the 3g though.
