Don't think many of us neglect a toll booth though. Use your head when you do crap like maxing out. I'm not talking to you alex..you know that but seriously...when the road is clear and nobody is in front of you and you're the only one in the car..go for it..at that point you're responsible for your own life, so dispose of it wisely I suppose.

This is the most disturbing thing I've seen on the internet and I've seen some *ucked up stuff. People give you a warning about not being able to handle certain material..but SERIOUSLY IF YOU HAVE A WEAK STOMACH, don't let curiosity get to you.

For the thousandth time, top speed of the 07-08 AUTOMATIC ACURA TL TYPE-S IN EVERY COLOR is anywhere between 132-134 mph.

Fuel cut-off kicks in after that.

Wow, didn't hear about this. Warnings for how graphic the photos were kept me at bay for say 5 minutes, but after the first skull shot, I was like "Uh...............ok?" Man, I was a kid in the 80s when slasher movies were king. Every photo I saw, I mentally compared it to either Friday the 13th, Nightmare On Elm Street, Texas Chain Saw Massacre, etc., then just went to the next. Thanx for the de-sensitization, 80s. I'll lose zero sleep.

The fastest I've been in my BASE 08 is 125 MPH on a complete straight-away, but at the same time, trailing a Camaro half a mile in front of me so if he cracked up or slammed on his brakes for a cop, I'd have plenty of time to adjust. Haven't attempted it since. Like someone said, acceleration will always trump top speed. Getting over 100 every once in a while under the right conditions feeds my need for speed and to me, that's pushing it. I understand the young'ns doing what they do because like them, I used to have the feeling of just needing to get it out of my system. But after say 30 yrs old, aspirations of reaching something like top speed on public roads is retarded.

Side note for those racing someone at high speeds, or racing period. If that person dies during the race, get a good lawyer because you can be charged with vehicular manslaugther. Saw a video of a case in the Defensive Driving course I took last month for speeding...HA.

RIP porche girl.

th elink to the video is ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/80753229
it should be labeled " cliff diving accident" . you really need a strong stomach to watch this, just hearing the women holding the camara scream is just enough to stop messing with your life. but you get to see the guys guys face in the surgery room falling apart. it's extremely graphic, but I always think about this vid before i do something physically dangerous.

So wait... after all these posts we still haven't come to a conclusion on what the top speed is?

Can we at least confirm that the manual has a higher limit than the auto?

actually there is a conclusion

04- 06 has the limiter at about 150-160 MPH
while 07-08 has it at 130-140 MPH

but type-s will always be faster due to acceleration.
AT can hit 0 -60 in about 7 sec.
MT hit's 0-60 in a little less then 6 seconds.
type-s will be around the same.

someone please correct me if I'm wrong

^ you are pretty accurate

But a 5AT TL-S can hit 60 a lot quicker then 7 seconds.... 6.2-6.4 depending how good a driver you are and what tires you have

I think the 6MT can hit it in about 5.8-5.9

and 4G SH-AWD 5AT is about 5.8-5.9 too.... the 6MT is like 5.2... incredible

I am not sure about the limiter on the 6MT TL-S.... then 5AT is right around 132-134mph...

I know with the 6MT, you can expect Fuel Cutoff around 5000-5500RPM in 6TH gear

^ again, all depends on the driver

I smoked a 335xi coupe off the line with my 5AT TL-S (fully modded), with lightweight wheels and sticky tires.

6.2 is pretty bad ass time on a 3.2L TL (if you are 100% stock)... probably achievable if you controlled your launch and Sport shifted at the red line

Wow. Shocking pics. RIP

Most newer model cars can do 100+ miles, so that doesn't mean your car is the only one that can get up at that pace. Heck, Prius' fan get up to 100+. Does that mean they are race cars? Far from it. Everybody can speed, but it's all about the maturity of the driver to respect physics and whatever other laws govern speed and the outcome.

I have a 06 which can hit 158 (only did it once and never again). In reality, I can be side by side with a Bugatti Veyron at that speed. Only difference is the dirver's responsibility to control the car at that speed and and who WANTS to get their first.

Same thing with a civic. We can both be side by side doing 110, but it's up to how the driver controls the machine.

As you get older in life, speed becomes irrelevant. But it's nice to know it's their if needed.

This is a weird thread
I have had my '07 TL-S to 152mph shown on the speedo twice.

It is not about bragging rights, but if I buy I high performance machine(and mod accordingly), I want to know how much performance I actually have. It was amazing how stable it was at those speeds, and I have no need to try it again.

It was on a safe, and nearly unoccupied freeway, which is a rare find today. Tire pressures were checked in advance, and my greatest risk was a random deer. As a rule, I drive at the speed limit, or just below.
My biggest question is why there is such a diversity of observed (or not) maximum speeds. As one said, it appears as though the speed limiter installations were random at best.

Dude... WHA!?!?!?! the bugatti will hit 60 mph before you can even hit 5 mph!!! and by the time you hit 158 mph (about 30 seconds) the bugatti driver would have already been done with the race and banging bitches with no rubbers!!!!

speed = total distance divided by total time

comparitively, a tl takes WAY to long to reach 158 next to a Bugatti, you can NEVER be next a bugatti for more then half a second in a race. Sorry my man, only in our dreams.

^ I know. That's why I said it' depends on the driver. He can hit 160 and wait 15
seconds for me to catch up. I'm not saying we'll reach there at the same time, but it's up to him to wait and chill at 160 next to me while I bust my ass to stay next to him.

I never maxxed out my type-s.... its seen around 110-120mph all the way out East on Long Island....

i personally, care A LOT more about 0-60 then max speed. like he said, anybody can do 150.... when we were teenagers, my friend got his 89 Accord LXi 4cyl up to about 135mph.....

even with my Tein SS and EDFC, the car still felt VERY unstable at high speeds... i guess thats a FWD feature

The family has the lawyers file to take it down on numerous sites, others got the message and took them down. I don't think Internet Brands would like to get a legal letter, so please to refrain from posting such photos

2004-2006 TL is limited to 155 miles an hour, the German treaty.
2007-2008 TL-S 5AT is limited to 135, just like any other acura (RL/MDX)

FYI, it takes about 250 HP to reach 160 miles an hour, however this may increase or decrease depending on aerodynamics and parasitic loss of the drivetrain.

Also another FYI, another member did the math back in 2004, the TL 2004-2006 5AT transmission gearing will allow it to max out at 202 MPH while the 6MT will max out near 167MPH. Will the car hold together at that speed, we don't know. Will it reach that speed, maybe with 500 HP!

as far as driving in triple digit speeds, it's not worth it. You risk way to much, your life, the lives of innocent by standers and most of all, the repercussions through your family. Please keep it to the track and not on public roads.

Haha. That happened here in the Houston area. It was on the other side of town from me. Some guy was on the phone (of all things to do in a Bugatti) and he over corrected. He hopped the curb and went headfirst into the lake.

There goes $1,000,000 down the drain.

Performance mods will ONLY improve your acceleration (hp/tq). The speed limiter is burned into the TL's brain. Unless you hacked the system and removed it, you can twin-turbo that puppy and it'll still peak at 134.

Areodynamics (downforce) and the TL's weight would never get it airborne. I did a buck 25 for three minutes straight and steering/handling was as responsive in the curves as if I was going 75 (stock suspension). I doubt adding 10 more miles would have changed that. It was probably just nerves, bro.

obviously. i was making a point since he mentioned his mods and how it doesnt effect it....lmao

and i thought it was quite obvious that i was being sarcastic. of course it didnt feel like it was going to take off, its a friggin car. but it was very unstable, hit 1 tiny bump in the road and bounced hard

I usually mention my mods on every post I make, as many others do also, and there was no reference to the mods making the car more or less stable at those speeds. Obviously, you just want to swing your dick, and call me a liar.

Several others have referred to their TL/TL-S being able to exceed the governed speeds, which implies that some were manufactured without them, or for some reason they don't function.

Some mods actually stiffen the suspension so much, that high speed stability may be a concern. Maybe that is your case....don't know, don't care.

It has been made clear on this post just how unsafe those speeds can be, which is absolutely true. I simply voiced my own personal observations with my particular TL-S.

Whether you believe my experience is of no importance. This is a forum of observations, knowledge, and experiences. If you don't want to share, don't lower yourself to personal attacks..in other words-grow up!

As always a thread deviates to another topic...

There are soo many mods that have a direct affect on central gravity, which is a car's stability guys. It can be dropped, riding on innovative stiff motor mounts (and I am), and it still means nothing.. Our cars were not made for such excessive speeds, yep, we can get there, but I doubtful you'll be lavishly cruising in it. It is a sedan. But a fun sedan

I agree with this. That situation was different because the driver was:
1) a female - no offence meant, but most girls are worse drivers than us
2) only 18 - the average 18 year old simply doesn't have the same driving experience as those of us that have been driving for 10+ years
3) in a bad state of mind - she had just had an argument with her parents and was surely distracted because of it
4) driving a car she had never driven before - most of us have been driving our TLs for a long time and are very familiar with them

hmmm according to wikipedia she also had cocaine in her body

^^gotta agree with those points. I was on the wall about number 1 but I tweaked my view of it. I think back to the old adage of when a woman has a problem, a man is mentally running scenarios on how to resolve it while a woman's mindset isn't to solve the problem. She just wants to spend 15 - 20 minutes TALKING to you about the problem. By nature or upbringing, men are more rational, observant problem-solvers which by woman's definition means we can act/react without emotion. A man sees an 18-wheeler in his path 1/4 mile ahead and makes plans to change lanes. A woman will get all the way up on the wheeler's butt, slam their brakes, then flip their turn signal. A man scans 10 cars ahead to determine how to maneuver through traffic. A woman only scans directly in front. A man drops to the flow a traffic when they see a cop. A woman drops 5 miles under. A man sees a squirrel in his path, accepts the fact it's more dangerous to try to avoid it, hits it, reflects for 5 seconds, then goes back to whatever it was he were doing. A woman will put that squirrel's life before her own or anyone elses in the vehicle. Call my view's chauvinistic if you want but I know some know what I'm talking about.

Number 2 is spot on. Lot of guys think they're badass because they've maxed out the speedo, floated through traffic, smoked that BMW, or lost that cop. To me, badassness isn't based on action, but reaction. In my 13 yrs of driving, I've thrown my car on to the shoulder because the wheeler behind me didn't properly prepare to stop in the rain for the accident up ahead and avoided being side-swiped by a driver who fell asleep at the wheel. I have many more but those are just two of the times when I was being a cautious, alert adult. Now during my "young, dumb, full of cum" days I've rolled an Astro van, t-boned a car after I rolled through a stop sign, and tried (and falied) to outrun a cop. I have many more but those three make my point. Some of these "self-proclaimed" hardcore drivers probably don't drive more than 5 miles from their homes for school, work, etc. and have never actually been in life-or-death situations. I thank the Lord for his grace and mercy in my youth and for the wisdom instilled in me as an adult from the mistakes I've made which helped build my driving skillset (though I'm still a speeder but the responsible kind, not the reckless, stupid kind). When my wife and I first started dating, we'd go out driving and on occassion, I'd find myself in one of those situations where rational and immediate action was my only option. Afterwards, she be like "ARE YOU OK ???!!!" and I'd be like "What " Two years married and now when something like that happens, all she says is "Good job, baby". I'm in no way advising putting yourself in split-second decision positions. Just that some of you guys haven't clocked enough hours behind the wheel to be remotely close to season veteran.

Guilty of number 3. Drove home after arguing with my girlfriend and what normally would have been a 15 minute drive was done in 7. Even worse, I was so spaced that I couldn't remember anything within that 7 minutes. And number 4 goes without saying, but since I said something about the other 3, I'd be derelict in my duty not to do so.

I was gonna apologize for going more off-topic but this has turned into one of those "proof is in the pudding" threads. People are gonna keep dishing out numbers and someone's gonna keep calling them inaccurate. We simply need to get 6 TLs together (04-06, 07-08 base, 07-08 S, in M/T and A/T) and just lay it all down. At this point, the original topic has been roasted, toasted, and burnt to a crisp.
