Love the exterior.. always did.. but the moment I see the interior it turns me off...

But then again 0-60 in effortless 3.3 sec is hella sexy.

I agree Tekno, I was considering one since I found out they were finally making one for the states, as I saw a lot of them (Skyline's) while I was stationed there.

When I went to see it at the NYC auto show 2 years ago, ACK!!! Awful, plasticky, cheap video-game like interior. Nevertheless, the exterior is nice.

One rule of thumb everyone keeps forgetting, never EVER EVER buy a car that hasn't had it's kinks worked out yet, a la this first-gen GTR.

The Spec V is a joke. The performance upgrades are akin to the Civic SI Mugen. Gee, add 4% horsepower and some small cosmetic shit with a 20% price increase?? Not.

Here's a link to some decent Jap-spec GTR's that are a ton of fun for a lot less:

Why do you say that? Its giving you supercar performance for a very affordable price compared to its competitors. I mean even the NSX was a lot more than this and not even close to this in performance.

Yeah not really sure how you can call this car overpriced. One thing this car is not, is overpriced, thats a fact. This car whoops supercars 5 times its price. You guys must not understand the difference between the words expensive and overpriced.

The launch control program is being removed for 2009 [or 2010?] due to owners blowing up their trannys

Apparently this is the sequence of events:

1) You see an awesome GT-R commercial w/ crazy fast 0-60
2) You goto the dealership and test drive one, love it!
3) The sales person tells you how to perform the sequence to activate the launch
4) You buy the car and sign some paperwork indicating your use of launch control voids the warranty
5) You use launch control excessively, breaking the tranny
6) Nissan says oooo... yeah no warranty on that sorry
7) You hate the sales person

From what I heard the Launch Control Will no longer be offered in these cars because of the whole transmission issue. The New GTRs will not come with Launch Control anymore which kind of sucks if its true because thats amazing to have but either way it sucks having it and not being able to use it knowing you will break the car. So either way it sucks !!! The Car although is BEAUTIFUL and I would trade my soul for it.

Base auto is about 7 seconds; manual is much faster at around 6 seconds, although I've heard people can hit high 5s in stock form.
Motor Trend got an '07 or '08 Type S 6MT 0-60 time of 5.5 secs. I remember a pre-'07 TL 6MT with the ASpec package getting a 5.7 sec time and 04-06 TL auto getting 6.3 0-60.

Transmission costs around 20k HOWEVER you can buy a separate warranty from Nissan that WILL cover abuse over the trans. The thing is you have to bring it to NIssan the day after or something to check how the trans is. Another thing I think Samurai Speed or something found out a way to fix the trans for cheap since they did blow theres up within the first few weeks they got it I think. The cost to fix it was a lot cheaper than a new trans too.

i would love to have one of these in the future.. unfortunately the cost of maintaining the GTR is outrageous... my wife loves it and wants one.. but when how told her how much a transmission costs.. and the cost to replace the tires... she changed her mind.. LOL.. maybe i'll settle for an NSX instead..

I saw "slightly" used GTRs with similar mileage sold for $78000 (one black and one white sold in Monterey Park, CA), So $13000 for the TL, isnt so much a deal.

Ling will never put those numbers (800/800) into a consumers hands. Where did you find that crap?

Ling hasn't put those numbers down in any of their 'Vettes, so quite simply, it's not going to happen in a
PWT Camaro. So yes, you're dreaming.

lol after watching why "launch control" was put into the skyline people have been using it for what it wasnt intended to. Thats why they are getting rid of the launch control for the 09-10 model year.

The GT-R even without launch control is still an amazing car. You'll never have to use launch control under 99% of normal driving conditions anyway. I have a few friends who have them and they have not had any problems with their cars whatsoever.

If you can afford it, the GT-R is the performance car bargain of the decade. If you can't afford it, it's still the performance car bargain of the decade.

uh... being able to press a button and raise the stall speed from 1600 - 4500 RPM sounds like launch control. I think they're back peddling to protect themselves from the idiots who over used it.. I know the GT-R has sumps of power but damn.. 4500 stall speed rpm is nuts.. no wonder the transmissions were getting eaten. It seems like not only did it manage the transmission but also the rear suspension and they proved that with VDC / Launch Control disengaged they still made / bested the launch times with it on because either the stall speed was too high on the torque curve (max torque is between ~3800 - 5200 RPM) or there was too much torque at the rear wheels to engage and there was some slipping / hop. I think it's the former than latter.. but with the GT-R's incredible torque curve.. 1600 RPM if okay with me.. lol.

It doesn't matter if the owner's manual states that the launch control is for getting out of mud / gravel.. off the line, a higher stall speed that puts you in the sweet spot of the torque curve is highly desired which is why people were using it.. but the torque curve is so high on the GT-R that it really shouldn't matter especially if the tires are able to hook at a lower stall speed.

So if the torque curve was so great why would you want to stall it higher...yea it will pick up higher and so on but is .2 seconds really worth that and a dent in your wallet? I am pretty sure you can pick up .2 seconds with that car elsewhere without having to use launch control. Anyway I would have thought people would have used common sense with an AWD auto trans dump...I have yet to see an OEM one come out that hasnt had an issue....Only ones i have seen last are built trans with Diffs and occasionally driveshafts...Just like the old HKS R33 Skylines that decide to launch at 7k for shits and giggles. Anyway I blame the advertisers mostly...Almost every show...fifth gear, top gear, etc...they all advertised it as launch control...could have possibly mis interpreted what the japanese were meaning but oh well. Whats done is done hopefully the new MY has a good run.

Quick Reply: Took in a GTR on trade 4k miles.
