TLS Performance Question

I just dont get something for the tl s if technically we have the RL motor, why do we only have 286 when they come with 300+ stock?? any answers for this besides it just being detuned....Any way to make it 300+ by any chance?

The RL got downgraded to 290. And after driving both RL and Type S, the type S is tuned much more aggressively than the RL.

this is like comparing appples and oranges (no offense nataSdroL). The RL is much more heavier and is slower than the 3.2 regular TL, so of course the 3.5 Liter TL will be faster. Additional weight of the RL plus the SH-AWD makes the car a bit slower as more torque is needed to get 4 wheels moving rather than 2.

No offense taken. While I wasn't expecting the same performance as the Type S, I must admit I expected more oomph from the RL

There is actually only one difference between the RL and TL-S. The RL has true dual exhaust. I climbed under one at the DC car show and checked. True Dual all the way back.

Is this new for the 2006 model? I remember the 2005 model was a dual down pipe from the engine, which merged into a single cat, then split into two right after the cat all the way to the back.

I should have said 2007 when I said DC car show, so yes the brand new RL has true dual exhaust.

It's not necessarily tuned more agressively. There is just a HUGE loss in the SH-AWD system. Neuronbob used to have a TL but a few months ago traded it in for an RL. He souped it up with exhaust and some other things and dynoed it. Barely 200 horsepower at the wheels. Base TL (not even the TL-S) automatics get something like 220 horsepower at the wheel with no mods.

That SH-AWD is a power robber and acura has been hesitant to install it in all models due to the power loss. However once engine power becomes sufficient, they will do SH-AWD on all models (like they probably will with the model year '09s)
