Versus 04 TL

Sabb Good - Better Brakes, Snabb appeal, Onstar, Good interest rates can be had, unique

Bad - road noise, some consider the controls non ergonomic, awful resell value, slower, this is an old platform getting ready to be replaced which will further hurt resell, turbo lag, TL offers more gee wiz features

I just gave my SAAB back

I hated my 9-3 convertible... the convertible was great 4 months of the year...when it wasn't in the shop. I am sure I am enjoying my TL more because of the terrible experience I had with the SAAB. Over 3 years, I was towed into the dealer no less than 7 times.... They blamed me for my problems... I had 2 little amps installed ....because the stereo sucked....they said the amps were causing the car to die..... 2 years into my lease they replaced the throttle body and the computer (12 days in the shop)...car worked like a dream... I already hated i and was pissed off that the dealer/GM blamed me.... So far the TL is a dream come true....:wow:

We discussed this a few weeks ago. Some of this discussion might prove useful, although it took a strange turn at the end!

Saab vs. Acura?

Pick up a copy of any year's Consumer Reports Buying Guide Issue and take one look at the frequency of repair records of used cars.

Any questions?

I couldn't find the invoice pricing for 2001,

but used it as an example.. per edmunds..
base pricing, no options

2001 TL MSRP $28,550 Trade In: $17,657
2001 Saab Aero MSRP $40,175 Trade In: $17,866

It's interesting that the trade in numbers come out so close. Per the "MSRP" comparison, I bought my new 2003 Aero (with automatic) for only $195 more than '04 TL price (which I realize is now starting to come down a bit). Once you realize what the Saabs really sell for (and I hope others are getting similar discounts) then you understand the flaws in the "resale value" arguments.

However, I can only cross my fingers about the repair costs/hassle issue, and hope I got a good one!

Thumbs up Drive it - You'll buy it!

SAAB -
JD Power's most reliable of European cars.
Consumer Reports Recommended.
Great scores on Crash Tests (US & Europe)

2004 9-5 models now sell for $4500 below invoice (see carsdirect.com and ask your dealer to give you same deal)

Leases (NY Baloons) at 4.9% APR for 48 Month. Residual 40% for 15K. 41% for 12K. The 9-5 wagon has 44% residual.

Bottom line: drive it - you will like the quick response from the Turbo, which does not have the Turbo lag this year as they went back to the 4 Cyl. Only problem is low humming noise in idle.

(Despite some torque steer, and some body roll, it is very likeable especially if you mostly drive on highways)
