TL vs. Chrysler 300C: Round 2

The latest issue of CAR AND DRIVER contains a road test of the 300C.

It blasted through the 1/4 mile in 13.9 @ 102 MPH - with a Curb Weight of 4,140 pounds!

That's heavier than most of the old 426 Hemi cars, and (stock to stock), it's still FASTER than most of them!

Neat

Pretty cool they are bringing the HEMI back to Chrylser. Is it me or is the word HEMI being exploited by the carmakers. Pretty soon, we are going to see HEMI Bugs, to attract the more manly men that are on the fence with the pink VW bug, hey if it has HEMI power, its a mans car right!!!

Looks like its got all the bells and whistles a TL has, and a good price, a good buy if you like American cars. I personally think the Retro move by the US carmakers is not my style, but hey, I think this car will be a big success.

Well...it's only a "hemi" if the engine's heads utilize hemispherical combustion chambers....

What did C&D have to say about the handling?

I hope it wasn't their usual "our test car went through the cones at a brisk pace, keeping close to its rivals" and "in the skidpad, the (insert car here) performed admirally, with traces of understeer" without any real information given...

The skidpad results were pretty bad - 0.77g, but C+D said that was due to the over-eager vehicle stability control system that couldn't be fully disabled.

My opinion on that car is that it's (a) ugly, (b) too heavy, (c) too expensive, and (d) ugly. I don't really care how fast it is in a straight line, I'll take my TL any day of the week over that pig.

4140 lbs., $37,760, no thanks.

You're right Mike, sorry. I'm out of this thread that has zero to do with TLs of any generation.

I prefer the TL's 6 to the heavy V-8. I'm at 23 MPG and climbing with 500 miles on my 6 speed. I loved the 300M but the 300C is just a retread Mercedes with a truck motor. I'll probably be getting one in a Ram 1500 in the next year but thats where that motor belongs.

I'll take the most power they can shove into the engine compartment, heavy V8 means nothing if the car has 50/50 balance. The TL is a retreaded Accord, nothing wrong with chrysler using a better product to design the new 300 around. If people are so bent on MPG why buy the TL? As for the hemi belonging in a truck, why would you say that? It started life in a car, it's only fitting it ends up back where it belongs.

To bad they didn't build that bad ass Charger they were showing off for awhile. Now that would be something!

340 SAE NET HP (~ 290 rear wheel), 4,100 plus pounds and it's still quicker (by EVERY measure: e.g. 60 - 100 MPH) than the L-78 Chevelles that were ~ 450 pounds lighter and allegedly made as much HP @ the rear wheels as the 300C makes @ the FLYWHEEL! :lol2:

Big words...from someone who will soon be sucking HEMI smoke. :lol2:

I suppose my LS1 is a "truck engine," too.

If after 35 years they can't make more powerful cars then something is wrong, now isn't it. Who the frig cares how it stacks up against cars that nobody buys thinking, hmmmmm 300C or 1969 chevelle, we live in the real world and in this world the 300C will be compared to cars built the year it comes out and it's direct competition.

I can see you now at the dealer, "Hey, that thing really smacks the crap out of cars built 35 years ago!" The salesmans response, "DUH, it better".

Oh, they can (and do) make FAR more powerful cars.

But that 300C gets ~ 2X the fuel economy of an L-78 Chevelle - despite the fact that it's FASTER, ~ 450 pounds heavier, is running fewer cubes, uses 89 octane unleaded fuel and conforms to stringent, modern-day emissions.

Wait 'till they come out with the SRT version. :cop:

Don't you read anything people post? It's been 35 friggin years, if the new 300C isn't better in every single way (except looks, it's ugly) then Chrysler needs to close up shop and call it a day.

Wait 'till they come out with the SRT version.
Let me guess, then you'll compare that to the '75 Trans Am instead of something built in this century.

So is the L-78 Chevelle.
Why yes it is, so are all Chevelles, not just the L-78, but that car was killed for other reasons than getting it's ass kicked by Ford for 3 decades. :lol2:

Ford "kicked" the Z28's ass from '93 through '02?

PROVE THAT.

You are on record claiming that you "know" that "unaltered" 396 Chevelles made "335 GRWHP."

- 1) PROVE THAT

- 2) Explain the concept of "GRWHP"

- 3) My '99 Z28 Camaro hasn't suffered ANY of the problems that your ~ $35K TL has suffered! :p

In sales Ford has kicked Chevy and Pontiac's ass for 38 years in that segment. If you ask a Chevy or Ford exec they will tell you that sales rule, Chevy dreamt of selling as many Camaro's as Ford sold Mustang's and even with the Firebird they couldn't keep up. So, point proven, as it has been proven to you before had you paid attention.

I'm on record saying no such statement and have told you that subject is beaten and dead. I refuse to rehash 20 pages of idiotic meandering that nobody but you cares about.

If you can't stick to the subject then talk to yourself. If you want to compare cars built today with their competition then we can do so. Acting like a dickhead is something you can take offline.

You ARE on record claiming that "unaltered" L-78 Chevelles produced "335 GRWHP" and I've repeatedly posted your original quoted to prove that.

I owned TWO 5.0 Mustangs (both purchase brand new, with photo evidence if "required." Neither car was even close to being in the same league as this 1LE/LS1 Z28.

Cluster of Wack Jobs:

OK. Since all of us 1/4 mile wack jobs seem to be clustered here for the moment....

Am I the only one who noticed this phenomenon: I can hardly resist a stop-light gymkhana (sp?) unless it's the same kind of car I cam driving. Whether it's another 'Vette, Maxima, TL,.... whatever. It's kind of like honor among thieves but in a gentlemanly way. I understand our differences are minute and what does it prove? All players are the same marque. So, I just tip my hat and give a thumbs up as I cruise politely.

I feel it's a waste to put $70,000 worth of machinery through the stress and abuse just to say that, on this day and in this lane, my car won/lost over the same car by three feet or so... :banghead:

Know what I mean?

Have fun posting 30 pages of nonsense again and please for the nobody that cares post where I stated those words you typed, you will not find those words in my posts.

Tell that to Ford who out-sold that Camaro so bad Chevy killed it. Now maybe we can get back to the discussion you created. if you want to discuss cars that are long dead, discuss them with yourself.

I got it now, reading is a class you dropped in 6th grade so you use repetition to learn! Why didn't you say so? Ok, repeat everything you have argued the past few weeks and then repeat it again and again and again. Maybe at some point in time you might learn something, I doubt it going by seeing you still asking the same stupid lame questions week after week.

Ask your shop teacher for the answers you seek, maybe he can show you pictures since you can't read.

And away we go, 1le on his way to 30 pages of stupid shit questions and claims he can't back up. Post where I made that statement, then ask anybody here if they care 1le. This road has been paved before and doesn't need another layer, yet like an ignorant politician you do it anyway.

A year from now you'll be asking the same thing knowing damn well it was answered, at least 10 times. Go back to school, it is obvious you dropped out or didn't learn anything while there. You can't post links to having a personality....probably the only thing you haven't scanned or searched for, maybe you should try.

By the way, don't try to sell that Geo, it's value has gone into the toilet.... there are several on Ebay and many other sites where guys are desperate to sell thier Geo Camaro's :lol2:

Let me see, last time I checked my Chevelle was worth 28k, how much is that plastic Geo Storm worth that you keep humping in the driveway? :smokin: Your neighbors have started a web Blog complaining that you don't even hide this activity, disgusting.

Now do as expected and go madly searching for my words that seem to have your mind in such a stir and post them here, where nobody buy you will care. Good night pimpled one...
