I was coming home from Phong's (anarchy[sear]) house and I was having a really pleasant drive home.

I was on this 4 lane highway and I see a E39 BMW 540i just itching to get by these 2 slower cars. He punches it and I knew he wanted to play. I switched lanes and followed slowly.

We approach a stop light and I look over at his car .. I catch him looking at mine and I knew it was on. This race was almost identical to my Mustang GT race .. we start normally and I could tell he was waiting for me to punch it. Finally, I downshifted to 2nd @ 50mph and went on my way

I didn't leave him like I did the Mustang .

I went through every gear in automode to get the absolute most out of each gear, and it was just too close to call. Neither of us pulled each other .. I went to the end of 3rd (105mph) and we both shut down ..

I know if I went into 4th gear, he would have started pulling due to the awful gearing on the 5AT.

I could tell he was auto, but damn .. I've never had a race that close.

He slowed down and told me "I didn't think a TL could keep up with my 540i."

thats sick dude! i am wanting to race a friend of mine in his 530i. is it best to start out from a stop or from a roll??

 

Unfortunately, it's best to go from a 40 / 50mph roll in 2nd .. you're immediately in VTEC and pulling hard.

RWD > FWD from a dig. The 530i shouldn't give you a problem from a dig / roll .. but once you start running into RWD cars with lots of torque is where FWD falls short.

 

sweet! ive started out going from a roll at 30 mph and didnt really like it! haha! does it help to practive launches in an AT? any suggestions?

 

The same exact thing happened to me this morning on the way to work! Except we were in rush hour traffic, speed limit was 35mph, I didn't race and he kept doing ricer fly bys
