Question TL Type S Reliability With High Miles???

Hey guys, long time no post. Last time you heard from me was a couple years ago, I was sad because I felt a dealer had sold a clean 2005 Acura TL 6mt from underneath me. (Which I found out later to be true. ) But lets not focus on the negatives. Truth is, I still have an itch for a 3g TL. I've been driving a prelude type sh for the last couple years, slowly saving money and building my credit and now I think I'm ready finally. I've been looking and looking for some time now and as you all know it is very hard to find a clean 6mt TL. However in this search for a base I found a TL type S thats in my price range and it has a manual! The car is super clean, not a scratch on it, completely stock, one owner, no accidents, no tears in leather, no cracks in dash, scheduled maintenance records, everything looks to be good. The only thing holding me back is the miles. It has 139,000 miles. Can any other TL type s owners comment on reliability of these cars at high mileage. Obviously Honda is known for their reliability, and I've seen other models reach high mileage. My prelude is almost at 180k running strong, and I've even seen TL's with 300k + miles. I would love to hear your guys opinions, should I be worried?

mileage means nothing, as a testament...look at your prelude.
I blew up my motor and sourced a used 100k mile motor...i dont care about how much mileage is on the motor. it works.

I'd give it the normal rundown you would any used car before you buy it but if it checks out, I wouldn't be worried. I test drove a 2007 Type-S with 235K miles and although the suspension made a lot of noise and obviously needed some work, the drivetrain sounded and drove excellent. He could have told me it was <100K miles and I would have believed him. I didn't end up buying it because the interior wasn't in the best shape but it was very mechanically sound.

I recently bought mine with 139k miles a couple months ago. I've been taking my time on maintenance items, other than that the car is great. You'll have to address suspension, possibly pressure switches but if it has records of maintenance and the price is fair I'd jump on it. The used Type-S market is going to start seeing higher mileage inventory. It's either a 9-10 going on 11 year old model. I could bring myself to spend 12-13k on a TypeS with 89k miles. I opted for higher mileage and a price I felt was fair.

These cars weren't built during the 70's. Mileage doesn't mean a thing. It's how well the previous owner kept up with maintaining the vehicle.

dont sweat it, i consider that low actually haha! us californians drive cars into the ground, putting on 20k a year is normal. so for a 10 year old car, that’s only 13-14k a year, not bad!

i had a 6 speed TL with 213k on it, still ran great. my current TL has 175k, runs great! mind you though, i replaced a lot of parts because the previous owner kinda screwed me, but i wont get into that. how much are they asking for the type s 6 speed? clean title?

I got 115k on my car, still runs great because we've taken good care of it (been in the family since it was new, become mine in 2014). It all just depends on the life the car has had and how much the previous owner has taken care of it.

272K on my '04 6MT and still flying high! It largely depends om how the car was cared for by the former owner. If they took care of it like I do, don't be surprised if you go to 400K, or beyond!

I think I already responded to you in a different thread; simply replacing the transmission fluid with ACDelco Synchromesh Friction Modified will cure your 3rd gear issue.

I purchased my Type S in Oklahoma for $6k at 140k miles during school a year ago. Drove to California after graduation and it now has 170k miles currently. No problems with the engine and transmission. However, I did had to replace a lot of bushings, engine/tran mounts, and valve cover gasket which was leaking. Since replacing them all at 150k miles, the car still runs like a dream -knock on wood-

I'm considering selling the TL for 8k at 200k miles XD Or the very least 6k :p
