TL Tranny..?
Hello guys.
I'm in the process of deciding between a TSX or 3rdG TL. I really want the TL and the one I'm looking at is manual. However..... I've heard that the tranny in the 6 speed TL's isn't great, that they're prone to break down. Is this true AT ALL? Was there ever a recall, does anyone drive a TL stick?

That's the ad. This will be my first car, tell me what you guys think!!!
Thanks!

TL six speeds are fine. Acura has had a lot more problems with their autos in the past than their manuals. Pretty standard to switch to a better MTF but other than that I've had zero trouble with mine.
Buy an auto anything and you'll regret it immediately. don't settle for less.

As for that car, I'd get it.
It's a manual, with pretty low KMS for a 04.
The price isn't too bad either.
The only downside which you WILL probably regret is that it doesn't have a navi.

The trans being occasionally reluctant to shift into third gear is fairly common but it's easily fixed by switching out to GM Synchromesh Friction Modified. I bought my TL-S 6MT with 112,000 miles on it, noticed the occasional third gear problem, switched trans fluid, and haven't had a problem for the last 10,000 miles. If you do a lot of highway driving I'd definitely go withe TL. The TL actually gets better mileage than the TSX on the highway despite having a lot more power. If you do mostly city driving then the better city mileage of the TSX and it's better turning radius might swing me in that direction. The school bus sized turning circle of the TL is one of the few things I hate about it.

How do you guys find gas on the TL with these crazy prices. Am I setting myself up for a car that's just going to be hard to afford? And is the TSX THAT MUCH better on gas? I'm really stuck between both cars..!
PS. If anyone is in the Toronto area and knows of someone selling an Acura, please do let me know. I only really know of Kijiji and Autotrader and there aren't too many option on both..
Thanks!

I use the gasbuddy application on my phone to find cheap gas at a reputable station near me!
The Acura 6spd's are almost bulletproof as far as reliability. The only issue was with a 3rd gear that may be hard to get into sometimes. Acura fixed it with new Transmission fluid last year and if it persisted after that, they had an updated set of gears. The issue with those gears is that most acura dealers end up breaking more stuff than fixing when getting into a transmission. Regardless, quite a few people here switched to GM Synchromesh a number of years ago and the trans has been running strong since.
try looking at acura.ca and look at their pre-owned section for acura dealers with tl's near you.

I have an 06 6mt with 43,000 miles and have had no problems with the 3rd gear issue. I'm still running the factory fluid but will be switching over to GM synchromesh soon for a little extra insurance. By the way you can't go wrong buying WDP. Sexiest color in my opinion(besides KBP)

Three Wheelin'
put it this way....Eventually the clutch will wear on the 6spd on a manual.
Which is an easy job to fix.
On the other hand. If your torque converter goes. Prepare for an entire transmission.
honestly, out of all honda's and acura's i've owned that were 5spd. The only ''issue" I had was deciding which clutch to switch to.
The auto accord I had. Nothing but transmission problems.
THANK GOD!!! some old lady ran a red light and totaled it.
