Talking Tl top speed

Took off early for work on a long desolate road so I finally opened it up. Top speed in 5th at 6K rpm was 147. The speed appears to be drag limited, no sudden drop of in power. Since 6K is close to the Hp peak I'm sure that it would have slowed down in 6th. Furthermore, the engine shows no strain at 6K. The car pulls to 140 then it creeps to its top speed. Stability at that speed is excellent The only noise is tire related. In summary top speed is essentially the same as in my previous type S. Acceleration and power throught the whole range are much, much stronger in the 6 spd.

Wow, thanks for the post, saw it at Vtec also.

I agree that the 6spd will be better at accel, the 5AT has two overdrive gears (4th and 5th) with third at 1.029 or something, so close enough! The 6spd does not go to overdrive until 6th gear, so it will really pull! Dam that wife, first auto in 23 years!

I need to move to your neck of the woods!

I'd be WAY too worried about deer this time of year up in Wausau to try that! Especially around sunrise/sunset...

But it's nice to know the new TLs are not governed.

Holy crap, that's one hell of a way to break a car in.
Or had you already put over 600 miles on it?

I've never taken a car over 120 or so and that was in my '97 Maxima. I'd be scared the tires would fly apart at 140+. lol! What are the TL's tires rated anyway? H?

Wow!!!
You have no fear.
I have done 135 mph in three cars, 1991 Legend, 2002 TL-s, and most recently in 2003 Audi A3 1.9TDI on the autobahn.
Take it easy dude....

I did 135 miles/hr back in 1990 on the just released Nissan 300Z. I will try my 04 TL later on once I break the 1000 miles range. I am doing 80 this week without a problem....

TL always got the V-rated tires minimum...at 149mph...

the 6-spd would get W-rated which can go up to 165mph

The tires are w rated 168mph. Dirac your right, the deer are murder here but we just had a special hunt this week and i'm looking forward to the regular season so I can do a dent on the population too! Not to worry rocket its over 800 now!

The fastest I've gone was 157 mph on my 1999 Yamaha R6 . I probably would have crashed if I saw a TL creeping up behind me at that speed!!!
