TL tinting info

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am looking to tint my newly acquired TL. I have read several threads on here about to moleskin or not to moleskin.

I spoke to my local Acura dealer today and they said if it scratches due to the roller they would replace the tint no questions asked. So not super concerned about moleskin, my thought was to try it once without and if it does scratch have him moleskin it when he does the warranty replacement. They use the following tint:

Not sure if I like it, but I do like the dealer being responsible for it.

My question is what percentage should I go? I haven't really found much info on that. I don't want to regret not going dark enough, but I also want to be practical and be able to see through the back glass. Does anyone have recommendations? I think Indiana law is 30% all the way around but front.

Also, looks like everyone went with a standard black, I would be curious to see what a bluish tent would look like on the WDP TL-S.

Thanks,

jheck

Percentage depends on state. I got mine done at the dealership I work at and it has not streaked yet. No moleskin at all so as long as it is installed right I think you should be good.

As dark as your state allows or as you're willing to risk being hassled and/or fix-it tickets.

Skip the moleskin at you own risk. I heard all the stuff here and the place I went SWORE they'd never had trouble with a TL scratching without moleskin. This is the place the local Acura dealer (supposedly) gets tints done.

I decided to cheap out and do the front with and the back without. Within 2 weeks the backs were scratched and had to be redone - at my cost; "Lifetime Guarantee's" don't cover scratches.

Did you guys ponder on what type of tint they used? This dealership only offers one type of tint. Perhaps I should shop around a bit.

I had Johnson's on my old TSX and loved them. They looked great and I had no issues with them. On my old TL-S I installed the moleskin myself and had no issues with scratches but did with glue streaking. I think it was the FL heat. Anyway, after a while it quit streaking glue and was good. Key to no scratches on the tint is to keep the door edge clean. If dirt gets in there, it may scratch the tint. There was a member that did his own (homemade) moleskin using felt and he was very happy with that.

It's like a strip of felt between the door jam and the window.
