TL in shop... TSX Loaner

My TL went in the shop to have the dash replaced, (small scratch) and the rear exhaust replaced (mufflers and chrome tips included), due to rust on the tips...

Anyway, I have a TSX/AT as a loaner and wanted to list my knee jerk reactions:

1) Car felt quicker than others stated (no way as fast as the TL, good for a 4 banger)
2) Transmission holds first gear (wish the TL tranny's did that)
3) In a sentance: TL's little economy sister, nice car for the money, but match for the TL (expect in handling, but TL power will pass in the first straight away.

It's a fun little car. Emphasis on little. I enjoyed my TSX loaner, but was counting the hours until I could get my TL back.

Mike Smeezy,
My TL is an AT, and so was my TSX loaner, so I've never experienced a 1st gear problem.

There is no problem, The TSX will not auto-shift from 1st to 2nd gear (it holds 1st gear), and the TL does autos shift from 1st to 2nd. I wish the TL would hold 1st gear, like the TSX.

Which dealer did you take the car to? Los Gatos?

Brother Lore,

YEE-Ah! Los Gatos

Stay away from Serviceman Tim, he is a straight-punk-yawach!

Bill or Glen are more better.

I too had an TSX for loaner and here are my observations.
1. Feels like an econobox - hear the door slam.
2. Transmission had a lag when playing with the autostick.
3. The 4banger whines a little.
4. Fun to throw around.
5. Too much of 'me too' of TL

I can see why people would buy since it has lots of stuff for a small car. However, I'd go TL just to get away from the mini TL stigma - even if I have to get a second job.

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely keep that in mind. Nothing bothers me more than a service advisor/tech who does not respect you and the issues you're having with the vehicle.

Lore,

Moreover, today while I was dropping off my car, I met with the Serivce Department Supervisor and filed a complaint because that service writer was so rude. . The boss seemed liked he really cared and stated he would talk to the employee.

Thats funny, the door slam on the TSX is the #1 thing Acura dealers do to show that it is NOT an econobox. It sounds and feels like a BMW door. SOLID.

Well it should be the other way around as far as body style because the TSX existed in design BEFORE the TL, so really the TL is more of a bigger TSX than the other way around.

actaully it sthe opposite the TL is too much of TSX, TSX was out first and holds that honor.

I think you guys are right. In either case, the body style on these two cars are very similar and thus hard to differentiate from distance.

The door slam, I still say it sounds like an econobox. I like the solid THUD on the TL.

Maybe the TSX had its window down or its defective. They both sound about the same.

it's funny you guys are getting TSX.

Both times I went to the dealer they gave me another 04TL (5AT) as a loaner...

Maybe next time I'll get lucky and get to try the TSX so I can compare.

Mike Smeezy,
Just took my car back to Concord Acura for the trim piece replacement -- they didn't have it in stock last time. Anyway, they gave me a TSX this time around, and it drives pretty smoothly as well. I was surprised I was at 80mph. And while it has good power it doesn't feel like the TL during acceleration (it seems to have to work far harder).

Anyway, in regards to what you said, I would also write a letter of thanks if they took care of you politely and with respect, especially since you had a negative experience already. Concord Acura's done good in my book so far, and Larry is by far one of the coolest service advisors (very nice guy).

I had a loaner TSX myself. I thought it was pretty descent. I had to say, TSX auto wasn't too much of a thrill to drive though. I remember being really impressed with a MT TSX. Maybe I've gotten spoiled, but TSX felt like an econo-box without the navigation. It's still a fun car to drive. However, the one I got had rattles coming from all over the cabin. I guess, people were having a lot of fun when they got it as a loaner:p

I know that my dealer has one RSX, but if I ever get a hold of that, oh boy. I can see the tickets coming now. I pray that my dealer never gives up on the RSX. But then again, I hope I don't have to take my TL to the dealer again.

Well, I seriously doubt the NSX will ever be a loaner. What do you think?

RSX is suppose to be a fun little car and they do have these as loaner.

Right. I just never thought of them as ticket magnets.
