Question TL-S vs. Prelude SH?

OK guys i just got challenged by a Mexican kid in a lude SH with all the bolt ons and maybe cams. as far as i know it doesnt have any FI. heres the catch he wants to put 500 bucks and give me a 2 car head start. either hes real cocky or hes real fast. what do u guys think? i dont know much about the H22 motor and its capabilities. if hes runnin all motor can i walkaway with this one?

Usually I'd say go for it - it's just a Prelude - but if he wants to put 500 bucks on it AND give you a 2 car lead off the jump, there's something fishy going on here. Especially if you've beat him before with his "other" Prelude, you have to think: what makes this one so much faster? I'm thinking he's got spray or a turbo under there...you should pop the hood before you agree on anything. Otherwise, kick his ass bro! And take a vid!

Yeah, hez right Kevin. If it was a bet of $50 Bucks it was understandable. Maybe the guys just playing and wont pay you afterwards? If he is putting 500, im sure he knows whats he doin so check his engine before Anything.

The fastest Civic I've seen with an H22 ran 13s all motor. You figure on a prelude it'll run 14s.

H22A.. i love that motor..

friend of mine had a 00 SH 5spg... cams, pulleys, intake, aem fuel rails, plugs & wires.. i mangled it with my 06 fully modded N/A 5AT.....

now, dont forget, the h22a has ALOT of other potential...turbo, great engine management, he could be spraying... ... even with a turbo, they arent THAT super fast. gotta be spraying if hes that confident in a plain ol' drag race.. my

ur 5at was comparable to my 5at on the power scale, so i should be able to hold my own if hes not sprayin

He might not know how fast your car is but no one bets 500 bucks and gives you a 2 car lead if he knows he is not going to win. I have a friend with a 97 Lude SH with Headers and CAI and he loses to my Auto AV6 when I was stock. The mexican guy would have to have alot done to that motor(which he probobly does) to take you. He might be spraying too! Bet 50 bucks and its worth the race as long as he isn't spraying.

how are the H22 preludes on gas? i want to pick one up as a new DD for work...they're going pretty cheap nowadays, but if it gets less than 26mpg, prolly not worth it, huh?

i have a 97 prelude......same for 97-01's. I'd say you will win if he's not spraying. Unfortunately boltons arent that beneficial for the h22. Now if its a twisty road or auto-x u will loose but just going straight u would pull on him especially w/ a 2 car lead.

I doubt it's very good, old motors tend to eat more gas, and those motors generally have engine issues, ie oil leaks and oil burning.

thats not true. my 94 bmw gets better gas mileage than my TL. it depends on how well the person before u took care of the car. if u take care of the car it'll run like brand new and still get good mpg

nope, no more 4ws in that generation of ludes. But they have ATTS, which is supposed to be the first form of SH-AWD (transferring torque actively to the outside wheel).

Haha, what do you have against mexicans?

Try getting your buddies to race him for free or something, just to gauge how fast he is maybe?

Race 'em, but be very careful. H22 have lots of potential if they are fully developed and you got the right driver.
