TL-S outruns cops

My buddy was heading home around midnight on highway 400 in Toronto. He saw a 3G TL-S doing 130-140mph and like 4 cop cars behind him. The guy in the TL-S was a good 4 bus lengths ahead of the cops and he just kept going faster and faster. The cops started to slow down because they couldn't keep up or they had to stop for safety reasons because chasing the car can cause an accident at those high speeds.

The TL-S didnt "outrun" the police....they gave up for safety reasons and began using their radio I am sure. Stop sticks ahead or something similar do wonders to slow somebody like that down.

And I have to say....whoever it was is a fool and taking everyones safety and lives for granted when they do such things.

FAIL.

there are safety rules- especially if the Police are just stopping you for a traffic offense-
IF- You are known to have just pulled a string of armed bank robberies and shot at someone-especially the police??--
they may run a street over from you so you calm down and dont kill the innocent bystanders-
BUT
since the invention of the radio, and the helicopter, and infra red, and spotlights the power of the sun---and video camers getting it all on tape...
if they dont get you this minute- you cant go very far

Doesnt anyone watch Cops?

Besides..possibly getting fawked over later on down the road, even if they didn't, they could've possibly gotten the TL'S license plate prior to the chase. Cops probably thought that the driver would give up w/ 4 police cars on his butt. Since he didn't, they'll probably make a nice little visit to his house in the middle of the night w/ possibly S.W.A.T.

i don't know about Toronto but we are still using Crown Vic's and sometimes the new Charger's (but that's very rare). So, they aren't very fast, but like others have said they will have a way to find that person speeding like that.

They are not that fast. The one I heard (late model Chevy Impala) does about 127 mph. I heard some go about 140 mph. It varies.

I wonder that TL Type-S was being driven by some robbers/criminals running away from the cops. I wouldn't do a such thing because you know you will get caught eventually and put in Jail..... not plesant.

I dunno, according to some guys with 3G TL-S 5AT's, they're finding their cars limited to 133 ish, so they won't get away.

They can do over 130 easily. they are tuned V8s. and I don't think a TL-S is the greatest car in a police chase. What with 287hp in a midsize family sedan (with a sport package type s). Maybe with a 1000hp evo.

Just because they have a V8 doesn't mean they can easily do 130. Its a relatively low HP engine and it's a heavy car. Also gearing comes into play. If you've ever watched those cop pursuit shows, you'll see that if the car they are chasing is a relatively fast sports car, they call for the cop mustang or camaro or other high speed pursuit vehicle.

The Crown Vic PI are limited to either 120 or 130MPH, depending on the car's final gearing.

I really don't think a 1000hp Evo would fare significantly better than a 600hp Evo.

Ford Interceptors will go all of 220km/hr. Thats it. I've put my foot to the oil pan of a brand new '07 Police Interceptor and it'll do 220km/hr and thats about it. I never felt it pulling after that just stays constant. The Interceptors actualy handle quite well at speed as well. I've had driver remark at how quickly the Interceptor closed the gap. They arn't quick from a stop but from a roll they gain quickly.

We don't have the Chargers but a neighbouring municipal det has a Charger with the 425hp police package and from what i have heard they haul ass. They tried it out goin after a bike and they caught up going 230km/hr and they still had peddle.

Gas crunch should slow them down lol. Oh an yes those spike strips will take thwe wind out of any speeder.

Oh and the 2wd Tahoes are actualy faster than the Interceptors...imagine that now!

***excuse spellin and typos.....i live for spell check

Believe me, the Police Internceptor Crown Vic won't do over 124mph. I've been on ride alongs with a friend and that's all it's got. The "tuning" you refer to is an exhaust, at least for the California Highway Patrol. Besides exhaust, power wise, it's a regular Crown Vic.

Stock for stock a TL-S would destroy a Crown Vic in a straight line or corners. I was talking to an officer in Vegas and he pointed to my TL and told me he was chasing one and it just kept pulling away from him. They caught it with the helicopter but he admitted the regular TL was quicker than the cop cars.

Someone claiming the TL Type-S having shitting handling because it's a "family sedan" needs to rethink about the TL. That is just being plain ignorant.

There....fixed.

Do you honestly think Wings are slow?? Try 0-60 in 4.1 and the quarter in 12.4@110mph. Yes, a Goldwing will embarrass a C6 Vette.

12.4@ 110 won't exactly embarass a C6. From a roll, the bike would be in trouble. Bikes are weird though. In my experience on the street, 99% of riders will either bog or wheelie off the start. Hell, I beat my friend's R9 when my car ran 12.0. I have no problem going against bikes from a dead stop because most riders can't ride.

Not all bikers drive like complete idiots i guess. But I guess you missed the point completely. 230km/hr is alot faster then i care to be goin with nothin to protect me but leather. What I was tryin to say incase you missed it was that the Charger 425hp Police Package is capable of haulin serious ass.

I would just never even try to out run the boys. A short radio call and the highway is shut down and spike belt out. 120mph hitting a spike belt would be a hell of a mess.

I wonder if Ford will ever release the concept Interceptor....might be enough to get me back to general duty again. Chev bailed out once again on releasing a rear drive Impala..always droppin the ball. The new Pontiac G8 GTP would make a wicked highway patrol car though.

Well, I guess my point was that a Wing will toast a Crown Vic badly. And you're right, alot of guys can't launch well, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're bad riders. I could never hole shot a bike all that well, but I could outride 95% of the guys out there in the twisties. I used to have a GSXR 750 I took to the strip a couple times. For the life of me, I couldn't get it into the 10's. I ran 11 teens, 11 ohs, etc. My buddy got on it and ripped off a 10.80 something and then a 10.72. You really need to abuse that clutch to launch cleanly. He just has MC drag racing in his blood I guess. He has a 10 second 124" Softail and a ZX-14 that runs 9.70's with exhaust and lowered. The Harley's actually more fun on the street 'cause nobody expects it to move like it does. I wanna borrow it one of these weekends and hunt down some cocky STI drivers.

Totally understood. I was just arguing to argue....bored at work lol.

You're a better man than me. I drove my friend's R6 to the end of my street and back and that was more than enough for me. Even though I've raced cars since I was 17, bikes scare the crap out of me.

It is not one cop vs one speeder rather, it is the law enforcement apparatus vs one speeder. Speeder FTL!!!
