TL Owners
TL Owners
I am currently on the search for a TL. I have always wanted one since i was 13 when they came out wit the 03 type-s which my uncle previously owned. I want to purchase a Tl but at the moment i dont wana spend to much> i was lookin at a few that had over 100,000 miles. are they still worth buying with so many mileages on them? please need some advice thank you!
The TL's can be a hit or miss when they have over 100K. The most concerning items are
A. Timing Belt Service
B. Transmission
The timing belt service can be expensive and most cars within the 100-110K range do not have them done. It's supposed to be done at around 105K for the first time. A simple check with dealer service records should help you figure this out when buying a car, or a Pre-Purchase Inspection should bring this to your attention.
The transmission on earlier models can be pretty touchy. The key to keeping them running strong is changing to a better fluid such as Redline D4 automatic transmission fluid. Just make sure that the fluid isn't burnt or dark brown, it should be a pinkish red color and as well that it shifts smoothly and doesn't slip when accelerating...
