TL less rare now
TL less rare now
When I first took delivery of my TL in May, which admittedly didn't make me one of the early adopters, it was rare that I saw another TL on the street here in Austin. I would define rare as in, it took a couple of months to see the first five. Nowadays, I'm seeing at least two a day on my daily commute. Yesterday, I saw three of them in a two mile stretch
!!
Anyway, I guess the word is out on the TL. The exclusivity was nice while it lasted, but it was only a matter of time before others caught on. Not unexpected, as it's not like it's a Maybach or anything. I had one of my good friends who saw mine for the first time say to me:
"This car looks better in person than it does in photos."
BTW, I was at the dealer getting "B" maintenance yesterday and they had an RL there, which I went over thoroughly. I predict the RL will continue to be a slow to moderate seller for Acura. The back to me looks just plain goofy. They should have also left off the "SHAWD" on the back; the way it's written looks like a word that rhymes with "LAWD"
If anyone here is familiar with hip-hop, I also think of the term "Shawty"...

Exclusivity costs...
If exclusivity is what you seek, be prepared to fork over big bucks for it, the Maybach being a good example to be sure.
The TL production numbers have hovered around the 65k/yr mark. In a 4 year cycle that amounts to 260k units. They're going to become more commonplace over time, but not so nearly commonplace as the Accord.
I bought the car for its balance of features and cost and had no illusions that it would be exclusive or rare.

I bought my 02 TL-S the first week it was in production and it was really special for a few months because it was so rare. I'd have people come up to me all the time and ask me about the new "type S." But that fad went away as more TLs were on the road.
The TL is such a great value, its impossible to pass up and your bound to see tons around. The only thing is, most are driven by middle aged ladies.......not a younger gen folk which sets you apart from the crowd while driving a TL.

When we were out there looking at new cars a month or so ago, we looked at all the mid size sedans. The Toyota Camry and Honda Accord were OK cars, but EVERYWHERE I looked, there they were! Way too common! We chose the 05 TL because it's a better car and a better all around deal! Even if it becomes less rare, the TL will could never be considered 'common'.
One reason we don't see as many TL's here in San Jose is that our gas prices are pretty high! Today we're paying $2.45 for a gallon of premium! Ugh! But we don't drive that many miles each year, so decided that the extra gas money was worth the excitement of the TL.

$2.45 for premium? Uh, let's see... Considering I fill up about once every four days or so... Living in San Jose would cost me about $566.75 a year more in gas alone...(I pay $2.05 here in Texas).
For you folks not-so-good in math, $566.75 is 28.3 table dances

Wish Fog Lights Were Lower
I wish that Acura decided to put the fog lights on the lower grill the the 02-03 TLs instead of integrating them into the headlight assembly. The lower grill is so empty and its look would really be complimented by some nice fog lights (+ it would also look much more aggressive at night)!!!
I was thinking of swapping the fog light bulbs, but its not really worth it because I get high beamed all the time already because people think that my high beams are on when they see 4 bulbs lit in the headlight assembly. I find myself keeping the fog lights OFF when i drive the 04, but they're always ON in my TL-S.
Anyone else agree?

beauty of it is though, the car is still new.. there are plently of people that don't know the TL was restyled... i went out with some friends last night and one of the other guys said, WHOA, what car is THAT?!?!?! I said, thats the my new (but not so new) 2004 Acura TL, he was blown away

The RL will not be a slow to moderate seller. I just did a test drive this morning and the car is something else, will be my next one. My dealer has sold the first 8 he got in a week. Has only one left and thats in the showroom. He told me that all the dealers on Long Island are asking for more than what they ordered because they sell them as soon as they come in. Acura should hit the 20,000 mark that they used for the first year with no problem.
I bought my at David McDavid, paid $3375 for it. It's an OK deal i guess. Still waiting for the dealer to call me and let me know when the car will come in.

No daily commute!!! Woo-whoo me!
$1.95 us dollars per gallon for 93 octane Shell V-Power gasoline in Columbia SC
but still, it used be only around $1.45~1.55
Also TL is really popping out here. My neighbor has an AM TL. And when I go to the office, in the public parking garage, I saw one NBP TL and also a WDP TL there always!

I'm in Austin too, I see a few but not a lot of 04 TLs. I see even less CLs, what I drive. found gas for $2.04 today, but most places are more.
Agree on the RL, rear end is a stinker, bland styling but lots of cool features. waiting for a new coupe off it or the TL.

There are just too many buttons for the 05 RL. It is confusing especially the idrive mimic. I don't like its interior and the center console armrest. I do like the SHAWD but paying additional 20K just to get SHAWD (change 04tl to 05rl ), it does not make sense in my book.

I see TL's every morning on my commute. At the metro parking garage, I've seen 5 on like one floor before. TL's are just all over the place!!! I do love how people go goo goo ga ga over the car, it's nice!
they made too many if you ask me, but they knew that it would be a hot car that would sell like hotcakes. at that price, the car is a steal. a lot of people who've been in my car say that it drives better than a BMW or Benz. Japanese cars are the way to go!
I have seen a total of 3 in my area so far. Very few Acuras of any kind around here. The closest dealer being 125 miles away makes sure of that. We do have BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, Hummer dealerships. I guess Acura doesn't think they would sell enough cars around here to invest in one.
New member here! First time posting! I just sold my '01 Formula Red/Tan NSX last Saturday and then bought a '04 TL DWP/Quartz with deck-lid spoiler and sunroof deflector from David McDavid Acura here in Austin, TX. Great site...very similar to the nsxprime site. Sam
