TL eating tires?

I got a comment from somebody today that TL's tend to use up tire threads more than normal? Is it true from everybody's experience? I think it depends on what type of tires you get and how you drive the car. I thought Michellin's were good tires. I was just telling this guy I was planning on getting an 07 TL and he told me to be careful since he's heard that TL's tend to go through tires quick. What do you guys think?

Depends on the tire and where you live. I got 25k miles out of my Falken Ziex 512E's but they went thorugh saltwater, concrete roads, many dirt roads and alot of harsh city driving. Some members have gotten upto 40k out of factory tires, i think they were the michelin Mx2M's or something like that. After market tires such as the pirelli P zero Neros and some others give alot of milage. Some members here have had the Turanza EL-42 tire, which is the worst tire by far. Those wear down in 10k because of the poor design of the tire, not the car. So if you got some michelins or some other tire besides the bridgestone turanzana EL-42's your ready to go. Check out the tires wheels and suspension area for more info

coming from an Evo, a TL is a grazer by comparison. My MR's stock Advans wore out after 6K miles.

15k on the Turanzas here, and they've probably got another 20-30k on them, but I drive like a geezer. The traffic, roads, and cops in Tucson are not set up to let you have too much fun.

I went through my Turanzas in 18k... guess I didn't get the memo about the cops since I drive 60 down kolb (doh) and have a hard time not going 75 where sabino canyon road gets all twisty just south of snyder...

at 1/32nds on the fronts I bought 4 new Falken Ziex 512's because I hated the Turanzas.. they seem to be better, but now after about 11k miles the fronts are at 4/32nds already... they seem to wear more on the inside fronts...

I'm not happy at all with the wear rate on my Falken ST-115. 14k rotated once and the 2 rears have only 5k max left. This is my 2nd set of falkens that dont last long.

I'm probably spring for Toyos next.

it all depends on the driver's agreesiveness on the driving to wear quicker, lol, I went 12,000 and I have about 1 1/2 inch left in treads and I live in Colorado

Maybe you should check your alignment, since your getting uneven wear. Inside front sounds like caster is off a little.

hehe... I got a ticket in December on Kolb at Speedway for 55, and there were two guys in the class that got tickets at the same time at the Fire Station on Kolb by Sabino. Props to you for being able to get away with it... I always get busted.

That just means you drive like my grandma

Anyways, I have not heard of any wear issues directly related to the car. I know the 350z has some major rear end issues with tires when I was looking into them.

I'm in the exact same situation as you. Just one of the front 512's goes bad real fast. I've even had my alignment checked and they say everything is fine. So had to have just that 1 tire replaced and now it has more wear than my older 512's
but that's okay i suppose.. anythings better than el42s

Speedway&Kolb... I'll keep that in mind.. I'm probably due for a ticket any time now actually... I've had two in tucson but spaced far enough apart to go to traffic school.. it's like a tax for getting to places faster..

wow 1.5 inches of tread? are those like monster truck tires?

Yeah, I had them do an alignment when I got the Falkens (even though it has always driven fine).. Didn't seem to help.. both tires wear on the insides.. there is a TSB out but its for the BACK tires and not the FRONT ones so they don't want to do anything.

GO to the dealer and tll them to check the bump stops and check out why the inside of the tire is wearing out faster than the other parts of it. Also check the air in the tires as that can lead to uneven wear.

That sounds like camber is too negative.
