Tl at the dealer for the rattle
My Service guy said they had encountered it before and they have hammered the c-pillar to dent it up to keep it from flexing. The c-pillar flexes like a coke can and that is a cause of the rattle. He knew exactly where it was coming from before I even described it.
I hope this is useful knowledge.
BTW I'm dealing with Acura of Baton Rouge, where I purchased my car.
I am also getting my front brakes redone.
I hope this is useful knowledge.

Drifting
the C pillar would be if your sitting in your back seat, on the drivers side, and you look over your left shoulder. that pilar inbetween your back door and rear winshield is the C pillar, same on the other side too.

Not a Blowhole
Kindly explain why this does not occur in every car, if it is pandemic?
And how does the TL have the torsional rigidity it does, if the c-pillar flexes?
The dealer's hyperbolic statements, let alone his solution, would make me very suspicious. Hammering a few dimples into it will not materially affect its strength - it is not like shotpeening hardened gears. One would have to weld-in at least 1/4" steel to buttress this area.
Not doubting you, but the dealer gets a 99 on the old BS-ometer.
I will do a Search on Google on some keywords from your post, and should get lots of hits.
2 minutes later:
2004 TL C-pillar flex
I got 10 hits, none of them supporting the dealer's assertions. Game over.

I picked it up and ......no rattle. The dealer also told me that in fact my car did not need new brake pads which I had already given them permission to install. The advisor there (who was a tech at the Honda dealer where I often had my Accord serviced) told me that I would not believe the rigs they had to do to get Hondas to not make noises.
