TL CPO advice

Hi ,

I am looking to buy Acura TL CPO. I am currently having a offer from the dealer 2008 TL/3.2 (no Nav.) with 24K miles and he is asking 19K including fees. so it comes to 19k + Taxes.

Is this a good deal ?

I think that's a pretty good deal considering the low miles. It would also help to know what state you are in and color of the car.

Have you test driven it yet?

Yes I have test driven the car, it has been on dealer lot for > 90 days and he had to jump start the car. The drive was smooth, The ext color is a grey and on history report it is reported as personal leased vehicle.

Did they just reduce the price since it's been there 90+ days? If so, then it's unlikely that you will get it for much less and they will have a lot of activity on it in the coming days. If they have not reduced the price then I would go in at $18K and see what they say. Either way I think it is a good deal.

Any accidents on the Carfax. I doubt you will see a lot of maintenance on it. Hell...it's probably just on it's 4th oil change.

Good luck.

I offered 18K and they won't bulge for that price, not even 18.5. They offered removal of any extra fees on the car. I think they reduced the price just because it has been on there lot for > 90 days and the door panels was having some color patch which they promise to clean before delivery.

and meanwhile no accident ,, and no major service record other then wheel alignment.

Wow, over 90 days and no one took the car at that price? I'm a little surprised at that.

What's the condition of the brakes and tires? If those are new then it's a good add-on. I would see if you can get them to do a transmission fluid change. Tell them that you have read some really scary stuff about the old Honda Z1 transmission fluid.

At the end of the day you've showed them your cards and they've showed you theirs. The price is good and will not change.

If it's the one at Acura of Manhattan, clean looking car and although w/o NAV, great price on a CPO car and still has the OE warranty in effect. Owner must have been paranoid as an alignment was performed at 5k, 7k, 9k, 13k and 17k miles, but do check the tires for any uneven wear just to be certain.

Good Luck

That's an awesome deal! One of the only ways that the navi wouldn't be a deal breaker for me because of the car being cheap, low mileage, and CPO!

If I remember correctly for a CPO the brakes and tires are required to be > 50% life or else they need to be replaced in order to be certified.

But I'm also guessing with that amount of mileage they should in pretty good shape and have plenty of life left.

Yes thats the one at Acura of Manhattan apart from some color spots on rear leather door panels car looks good. Tires are in good shape. The only thing missing is Nav. I will be going in again today and check every thing once again..

That is a good deal I think, as long as there is a clean carfax. Leased vehicles are good, the lessee is more or less locked into doing the regular maintenace too.

So I finally closed the deal. It came $20.6K out of door price. I think its okay price for 2008 TL. One thing more the dealer didn't mention about purchasing extended comprehensive warranty. It's come with 1 year year extended (comprehensive) but I think there is option to convert it to 7 years. I am not sure of what the cost for it and is it worth buying.

If it's a CPO vehicle-From the Acura site:
A limited warranty and three-day exchange policy (where applicable) provide unparalleled peace of mind with any Acura Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle purchase. Every buyer receives a 12-month / 12,000-mile Limited Warranty plus a 7-year / 100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty, and coverage is honored nationwide at all Acura dealers.

Start of Coverage
12-month / 12,000-Mile Limited Warranty extends the new car non-powertrain coverage by 12-month / 12,000 miles (whichever comes first) and starts after new car warranty expires.
The 7-year / 100,000 mile Powertrain Limited Warranty starts from original date of new car warranty registration.

The clock starts ticking from the in-service date of the original owner.

The optional extended warranty:
One program extends the non-powertrain equipment coverage for a total of 7 years, 100,000 miles from the date the vehicle was sold as new – the same as the powertrain coverage. Or you can increase your confidence interval further and extend both powertrain and non-powertrain coverage for a total of 8 years, 100,000 miles or even 8 years, 120,000 miles. See dealer for details.
Extends the same coverage provided in the Acura 12-month/12,000-mile limited warranty.
Acura Care Certified Additional Coverage is transferable.

Do your homework to decifer what the dealer is wanting you to believe.

$2K might be a lot for it. Acura Care quotes $1150 for 4 years. And CPO already have 7 year powertrain on it. It should just be the cost to add additional non-powertrain warranty. I thought it should be much less then what Acura care is offering.

It should be less expensive as it isn't a true bumper to bumper warranty as many items aren't covered. On the car in question, factory warranty, basic 4/50,000 & powertrain 6/70,000, but with CPO it will be 5/62,000 & 7/100,000. As you can see, the extra cost warranty is for only the basic coverage and adds 2 years & 38,000 miles, which shouldn't translate into thousands of dollars. Got to make money somehow. They also have available, 8/100 and 8/120,000, can just imagine the additional cost.

When we purchased our '04 back in 3/07, the extended warranty was only $800 and with the NAV, thought it to be a good deal, but never needed to put it to use. It's a gamble.

You got a really good deal. Let us know how much they quote the extra full warranty extension cost (to extend full coverage from 5/62,000 to 7/100 or 8/120).

The "wrap" extension of the "limited" warranty can only be purchased at the Acura dealer at the time the car is purchased. You are asked to sign a form if you decline it at closing.

Paying for the warranty is always a tough choice and I was double minded when I paid for it.. I am not sure what others pay for extended warranty but I played with the quote that I had with AcuraCare which offered $1250 for 8 years warranty and mine being CPO the price should be adjusted little lower then 1250.. Initial quote from him was $1350 not sure if that was a fair price though ..

Also for last few days i drove my car mostly city miles and MPG is coming out to be 15.. Any advice to improve the mileage.. What type of gas I should be using. Any advice..

don't drive in stop and go traffic. always use 91 or higher octane...and don't lead foot from light to light.

get the TL out on the hwy and the MPGs will go up. 15 mpg in the city with an avg speed of less than 18 mph is NOT uncommon. get your avg mph up to 24-25 and your MPGs will go up to 21-22mpg.
