Lol sounds like the TL driver was a moron, but the Mazda driver kind of is as well. First off I couldn't tell you a Mazda CX3 from a speed6 no clue about anything Mazda they just seem like boring cars. Anyway, this guy claims they are faster than the TL-S? Maybe that's the case I don't know, but I would be kind of surprised as all those cars look like cheap econo boxes. A 6mt TLS can hold its own I would imagine against other similar cars.

I got through maybe 3 sentences and I instantly wanted to kill myself. Fast or not I'm glad Acura brings a little higher end crowd.

Obviously you haven't driven a FD.

yea the op in that thread i guess you can say instigated any trouble, why slam on your brakes when you dont let someone pass only adds more fuel to the fire. Agreed that both drivers were DBs

Third generation RX-7. Lovely vehicles. Gorgeous with a Veilside kit.

There are jerks in every community. Part of owning semi-sport spec'd cars.

Cutting off on the right was a dick move, so I can understand MS3 driver bein pissed, but he does sound douchy as well. At least nobody got hurt.

FD is the last generation RX-7, they were very fun to drive. MazdaSpeed 3 is a very quick car as well -- turbo helps.

MS3 and MS6 are no slouches. Their gearing is set up in a way that makes 3rd gear pull absolutely obnoxious. My best friend has a Speed3 and his car pulls in 5th like my car pulls in 3rd granted it is a Base 6mt. I give credit where it is do and the speed 3/6 are great drivers cars. PS VVT (Variable Valve Timing) sucks big time on those cars.

Sounds like a battle of retards. It's the special Olympics of car racing. As beautiful as it is, the RX7 was still slow. So is the TL, Speed 3, etc. who cares whose 14 second car is quicker. And the driver of the Mazda would have been pulled from his car and beaten to within an inch of his life if he did that to me. Eventually a punk like that is going to mess with the wrong person.

Sorry, I had no reason to take my time and figure out what FD meant:-) Even those RX7's never interested me even the slightest. Regardless though I was just stating a point similar to what I HATE CARS said in that even though both guys sounded like douches, that Mazda guys was talking an awful lot of shit for driving a slow Mazda speed or whatever they are called. And I will be the first to admit that my little TLS is not even close to being a fast car so I'm not being cocky in that sense either.

Who cares????????? The guy that drives the 14 second car!
Doesn't matter whether a car is 8 second or 15 second, in a race one always wants to come out on top or show off their superiority, if you can call it that, or their lack of good judgement when they are seeing taillights.

There are morons that drive all makes of cars, including TL and TL-S, as I can attest to that.

I lost to a VW large family car the other day even though I treed him. I haven't thought about it again till right now. I was laughing the whole time we were racing and I don't think I would feel any different if I had won. What's there to be proud of if I had beat it? How am I supposed to take it seriously when we're in the same acceleration range as a Camry. I'm not going to be proud or think I'm superior if I beat a Camry. Now had it been a ZR1 as it was two years ago in the other car I would be proud. Still am 2 years later. I don't feel superior though.

The fact that he slammed on his brakes for the guy tailing him alone makes him a retard. I don't care if I have a guy 2 inches behind me, I would never risk getting rear ended even if it was the other guys fault. The mazda driver is either going to get in a really bad crash for his driving habits, or like IHC stated, beaten the fuck out of at a red light by someone who doesn't take that kind of shit.

Matt:

If it was your only vehicle and you were of the frame of mind that your car could beat most everything on the road, you'd be one proud driver. Ever see the Civics race one another, or ever see the 15-17 second cars at the drag races? They are there for one purpose, to win and happy they are when they do so.

Speaking of racing the ZR-1 with the GN, I wouldn't get too overwhelmed beating a stock Vette, regardless of the model, modified vs. stock. Can't see what's to get excited about other than outdueling a $100k Vette that maybe the driver thought it could beat anything on the road.

On the other hand you might want to try a supercharged ZR-1 @ 9 second in the 1/4. Should make for an interesting race. Too bad the GN is on the West Coast and the S/C ZR-1 is on the East.

Nothing to be too excited with beating a stock ZR1?!?!? Thats a 630+ HP car that can pretty much hand most exotic cars its ass right! Heck, even a used $39,000 2006 Z06 can do that in some cases. BTW, the ZR1 is supercharged stock so not sure what you meant about that.
I understand what your saying and all and that maybe a 14 second car to some 21 year old might be his pride and joy and seem fast to him, but you do have to admit that Mazda guy was talking as if he was driving a 9 second beast lol. I guess when you have owned a car that is truly "fast", then it kind of puts things in perspective a bit.

I have a hard time understanding why people think a family sedan that runs high 14's is 'fast'. It should be some sort of requirement to at do a pass in something that runs at least 10's.

If you ask me, the TL-S 6MT has just barely 'sufficient' power for a daily, and thats only if you prefer driving slow. Most new V6 minivans are not far off.

All ZR1s are supercharged and they've broken into the 10s factory stock on stock tires. Fastest and quickest Vette ever produced plus they corner and stop with the best the world has to offer. I can't imagine a 9 second ZR-1 being much more than a tire change, boost, and exhaust with an excellent driver.

I have no idea what mine runs. It went 10.6x back in the day. It's gone on a 400lb diet and put down 602 at the wheels with the "new" engine that's now 7 years old. No idea how much power it was making when it was last taken to the track.

I expected to win, I'm putting down almost as much at the tires as a stock one puts down at the crank and my car is roughly 200lbs lighter. Plus I was on tire and he was just on very good street tire and we went from a dig. Still, I was nervous as hell and telling myself not to smoke the tires. It's still exciting to beat a legendary 100k car and not just a pretender but a real performer. This is the Vette of all Vettes and one of the few I would like to own one day. You certainly can't say the thrill of beating a ZR1 is in any way comparable to a Mazda 3 beating a TL. The violence of the race itself and the fact that you actually have to drive the car since there's no ABS or stabilty control or DBW or traction control to bail you out which is the way I like it. It's the front end being so light the steering wheel feels disconnected. Praying the slicks hold when you finally go full throttle and the rear end dancing around for the whole race with it more or less hooked but still slipping a little. I also like the transformation of the quiet docile little V6 that comes alive under 30psi of boost and can be heard a mile away.

This was my only vehicle from '94 to '06 but I was never of the frame of mind that it could beat everything, that's what separates me from the typical Civic driver or the douche Mazda driver. I liked racing win or lose. I looked for cars that had a chance of beating me. If I ever lost it wouldn't hurt my self esteem, I don't base my worth on whether or not my car wins or loses. I would go home and make it faster. I liked the idea of having a true street car, a daily driver that would compete with the best of them but as I was getting into my late 20s I got tired of staying up all night fixing something that went wrong from racing on the weekend just to get to work the next day so I bought the TL.

I've unfortunately seen way too many 16-18 second Civics at the track. They tend to break and oil down the track way too often. They drag water onto the starting line which has almost sent me into the wall several times. Most have a bad attitude and more excuses than I've ever heard elsewhere. You hear about the incredibly rare 9,10, and 11 second Civics on the internet and many act as if they're common but a trip to the track every weekend shows they practically do not exist. I've seen two 10 second Civics that out trapped my car by 20mph. I talked with the owners and they were nice, knowledgeable guys, not the same kind you find in 16 second land on the street.

I just don't see how you can get excited racing a 14-18 second car regardless of what you've been around. Even before I had ever been in anything quick I got a ride in a 15 second Mustang which was respectable then and I was very disappointed. I don't really care what others do but it's when they want to get an attitude and they get cocky and basically don't know their place that annoys me. If someone beat my GN and talked trash afterward that would be fine. If they beat my TL and talk trash, we're going to have problems because they're obviously ignorant about cars. If a 14 second car gets your blood flowing, that's great, I'm jealous.... Seriously.

I was with a friend whose family owns a farm. We were in the beater Cirrus at the time. This is a car that's used on the farm and by various family members as a backup car at any given time. It has probably never been washed and it's slow as hell, probably 18-19s literally. So we're out one night and the owner, my friend, also has an 11 second Typhoon so the thought of racing the Cirrus had never crossed our minds. We stop at a light and we were both in shock when a Civic with loud exhaust revved at us. Being rednecks we couldn't resist. So it's neck and neck off the line. We were both laughing hysterically even before the race started. Second gear the Civic gained a little ground and I was just a couple feet from the driver with my window down. He had his hat on backwards and had this super serious look on his face. He grunted when he shifted gears and looked like he was in pain. This dude was really going for it lol. He beat us by about a carlength and put the hazards on. Maybe he felt good about himself after that but we certainly didn't feel any worse, I was sore from laughing so hard the next day. The driver of the Civic had to be able to hear us laughing. That's the kind of people I see driving around loud slow cars all the time.

I think it's the ignorance that gets to me. I know my GN isn't the quickest thing on the road especially now that the V8 crowd has adapted and implemented the turbo technology very well. Or cars like the ZR1s trapping low 130s stock. It's not going to hurt my self confidence to get beat. It's the 15 second car with the 20 second driver that thinks it's the quickest thing out there that gets to me. The ones with the attitude like the Mazda douche, those guys are almost exclusive to the slower cars. Those with quicker cars, say a bone stock Vette are generally more humble and knowledgeable than the 15 second crowd.

I should add, I broke my car on that run and that's one of the last times it's run. I got carried away with another round of upgrades and ran out of motivation and money to finish.

As the OP at the MazdaSpeed forum rambled on, I thought that red light was waaay too long.

The MazdaSpeed 6 and Acura TL both can go 0 to 60 in under 6 seconds. But apparently, those drivers aren't worthy of their cars. What a couple of DBs.

Lol freeway hero's. I love the story. No vids no pics no nothing. Anyone can tell a story. Its all bull until I see some proof. That being said it just seems like two douche bags got a hold of two nice cars. I love how driving from light to light is a measure of how awesome a car is. Suspension geometry is lost to idiots like this.

Remember guys, an engineer in R&D weeps every time some idiot buys a car based on 0-60 times. :P

Sorry, but just forgot to add ECS before S/C, but the 638HP Vette is stock!!! How can one compare any stock car with a one that has been modified regardless of the vehicle or cost?
A stock daily driver that handles great and obtains great fuel economy to one that is described as unstable and hard to handle……Big difference.

Both drivers were off limits, but we wouldn’t even discussing the matter if the TL driver wasn’t some want to be race car driver, similar to what we see every day on the road.

I've gone 7 second in the ¼ but still get some enjoyment out of beating some nutcase that thinks he’s king of the road. Doesn’t happen very often anymore as I very rarely don’t drive the car and just tend to ignore the ignorant.

Everyone has their own opinions and this will be like religion and politics, never will we have a meeting of the minds.

Suspension geometry is lost to idiots like this.

Remember guys, an engineer in R&D weeps every time some idiot buys a car based on 0-60 times. :P

nothing really to do with this story but I just found out recently if you brake to get someone to back off or piss someone off.. and they hit you.. the person braking is held responsible since the police would term that as an "offensive" action

now that could be just PA but thought I would share...

on a side note on the story when he said White TL I was thinking was it me? then I read that they had a "FAST TL" plate.. whew... in 2009 I was an ass of a driver... today I am just a dick of a driver.. well when I am not lazy
