Question Tire Pressure Caps?

Anyone know where to get those cool caps that display the tire pressure? I walked by a TL on the lot that had them on there - it turned out to be the one the salesman was driving. I asked him why only that car had them and he said they "only came with the green cars" (his was the only green one there). I actually laughed.

I'd like to get a set of these if they are not too much.

They don't work all that well though...

I have them on Z, they pressue indicate 34 (highest), but when I take it in for service, they checked for me and say I am low. Only at 30 PSI....

Halfway off-topic: It is virtually impossible for me to check my tire pressure cold. Don't ask why and I won't bore you with the details.

So, does anyone know, or can provide links to an authoritative site, if it is OK to check tire pressure at normal operating temperature? I realize the pressure would be different because of the gas law, but wouldn't it still be some constant number? (And don't say it won't because the normal operating temperature can vary during the year - that's true, but so can the "cold" temperature vary.)

Thanks!

Oh, and to answer the original question, in addition to many on-line sites, most larger auto parts stores sell those things for pretty cheap, too.

TLgator-you can check them at operating temperature. Just subtract 3-4 pounds. Also, remember if the car has been setting a few minutes, the front ones will read higher because of the engine heat. Same thing if one side is in the sun and other in the shade.

You should try and check once when cold, then check again later when hot and see your actual variance. This will let you determine how much to subtract from the hot tire reading.

Ron A - I knew you'd come through! Thanks much! So, at operating temp, the pressure should be around 28?

Great advice about how the temps change while the car sits, and about comparing hot vs. cold.

You should charge for this shit! Thanks again!

ummm.....At operating temp. the tire pressure would be higher then when the tires are cold. Therefore, operating temp at 28psi is a no-no, it would mean your cold temp would be 24.

Reverse your thinking. Hot temperature 36psi, subtract 4 degrees from that reading because they are hot = cold temperature of 32psi.

Good thing for the sake of the world that I am not a NASA engineer.

Addition, subtraction, eh, it's all just numbers to me.

Hmm...come to think of it, good thing I don't file your taxes, either.

Here is where I got mine-

http://www.accupressurecaps.com/?&so...ressure%20caps

I think they are 12.95 for a set of 4 (versus $10 a pair above) and they have all pressures from 26-60 and you can also buy them in pairs or individually (in case your fronts are different than your backs or you want one for a compact spare).

I just got my Odyssey back from a service check/rotation and they inflated to 32 psi (they even wrote this on the service slip) even though it says 36 on the door sticker. What gives, am I wrong to inflate to door sticker pressure?

I add 3 pounds because ambiant "cold" temp here in Florida is about 85. The fronts probably get a little warmer- not because of proximity to the engine (it's well insulated) but, IMO, because of increased friction due to them being the driving and steering wheels.
