Tinting windows on 06 NBP TL 6MT

So... what percentage of tinting looks good you guys think?

How many of you have front side windows tinted (i believe it's illegal but people still do this)?

How much is it?

Does anybody know a good place in the bay area that does super professional job?

I have always had dark tint all around my rides for the past 15 years...
I got my first ticket 6 months ago.
All you do is remove it, get the ticket signed off, pay the $10 fee (in CA), then slap the tint back on!

There are a number of tint manufacturers like Llumar, 3M, Formula One, Madico, Solargard, Huper Optik, etc. Then you have film types like dyed, metallic, and ceramic. Take into account, the visiblility of light transmitted, in other words, how dark or light the shade is. For example, 50%,35%, 20%, 15% and 5%. Lot of the folks here use either metallic or ceramic film, usually 5-15% (most like 'em dark) and the choice would be based on personal preference. I would not recommend getting dyed film as they tend to turn purple after a couple of years. The only dyed film I would highly recommend is the 3M CS films (guaranted not to fade) and it works well with Navi.

Speaking of Navi, Acura recommends the use of a non-metallic film to prevent degradation the GPS signals. However, there are a number of folks who have metallic film and have not noticed any loss in signal strength. By the same token, there are a few who have had probs with it. By using either F1 Pinnacle, 3M CS or Huper Optik films will likely prevent problems. However, the choice is yours. You should use the search feature to get more info on this.

One last note, the TL is prone to tint scratching and the use of "moleskin" on the inner wipers should prevent that.

A number of folks have used and recommended Rocky Mountain Tint in Livermore. I believe they use F! Pinnacle. There was also mention of a shop in San Jose. Hopefully a few more of the Bay Area folks will chime in. Hope this helps you a little. Here's a photo of Gochan's NBP with F1 Pinnacle 35%.

I live in Florida...but what people do is take a picture of the car before it gets tinted, fog lights, ect..... when a cop gives a ticket for whatever...you just show the judge the before picture and say you took it off...of course dont try showing up with the same car.

I read some people saying that to do the rear window job, you have to disemble the rear deck and few times, you may hear your rear deck rattle after the tinting job is done..
has anyone experienced this kind of behavior?

Do they carry 3m, huper optik, or Formula 1 there? Or does anyone else know a place in the san francisco or the west bayarea that have those tints for a good price?

I had 20% all the way around on my Sentra. Was so nice with the chrome rims but the local PD (small town... very small) didnt like it so I was given 3 warnings before I finally caved and took it off.

Props

Props to Rocky Mountain Tint in Livermore. They did a great job for me. 5% all around except for the front 2 (25%). Warrantied for as long as you own the car.
I haven't been pulled over, but honestly it depends on where you live. If you drive aggressively, more likely you'll get pulled over w/tints. If you drive reasonably, no.
friend of mine was pulled over speeding 90 and the officer was having a good day and said well, be more careful, but I will let you off with a ticket for your tint. So it isn't always a bad thing.

Rocky Mountain tint charged me 274.00 for all 7 windows, but the 3rd gen. is more expensive. I think they need to put in a soft cloth type of guard at the top of the window so it doesn't rub.

I don't know about disassembling the rear deck, but some places do take off the third brake light to completely tint the window.

I doubt the rattle would be caused by that, though. If anything, the rattles will be set off by the subwoofer/bass.

Don't go darker than 35% if it's illegal to tint the front in your state. Chances are, the cops won't bother you for 35% (where the interior is still slightly visible).

I have a WDP with parchment interior...Im deciding b/w 35% and 20%
In NY the legal limit is 75%....which is basically nothing, so if you get tints they are gonna be illegal. My last 2 cars had 20% tints and I never had a problem, but I feel like tints look so much darker on a white car.
Any suggestions?

20% all the way around, not too too dark, not too light, perfect, no problems with it either, get whatever you want, id stay above 15% on the front windows tho for visibility purposes

I also agree on 50%. I like to see and be seen. I don't want any unecessary attention form the police. I don't want to have to remove the tint and pay for another install. Additionally, i want the windows to look uniform in apperance. I'm not a fan of different shades. Maybe most importantly, if you get into an accident with tint that exceeds the law, your insurance company may not cover you...
