Here is what my taillight looks like right now.. I first had tinted the Red reflector and the clear plastic over the brake lights, but ended up hating how blacked out it looked, So 2 hours later after using some mineral spirits to clean up ugly tint spray I was able to clean one side up to see how I liked it.. Notice the carbon fiber! Looks sick!

Just need to figure out if I want to use the diffuser or not. Anyone have a pic of a clear brake light without the diffuser, but with the LED board?

"You guys now know why I charge $150, its not so easy and it takes a lot of work."

Amen. Shit is nerve racking.

Sounds like I'll be dropping by my local stealership to pay $5 for some rubber

yah..this crap is definitely nerve racking.. Hey I used Plastic cleaner to clean the lens.. works great.. It is this stuff I used to clean my rear plastic window for my s2k .. it is made by blue coral.

Now I am debating on putting in a little more carbon fiber. Since I dont think ill be using the diffuser anymore..

Yah I tried more carbon fiber and it looks over done.. So I am going to keep it the way it is.. Looks like I wont be able to finish this mod til next week. I still need to remove the tint on the other taillight. If I hadn't sprayed it and had to remove it I would be done already.. But one taillight is put back together .. no finger prints!! Just one little piece of dirt somehow got caught inside. Just gotta seal this one up and it is good to go! I think it turned out awesome!

You have to spray it so it layers. Hold the can tilted and spray 3 lines going across the light starting from the top. Almost like your sectioning it off.

Those are the frost pieces removed, not the diffuser. The diffuser is the white part where the brake light is. The frost is the piece behind it that "frost" the LEDs so the light gets "evened out"

Ack did a very good job with my tails. The minor imperfection that I am referring to, in relation to my set, is a little bit of what I believe is glue (it's a crusty, white substance under the lens at the very bottom of the left fixture) that may have seeped during the reconstruction process. It isn't something that the majority of people are going to notice, but I know it's there since I inspected them carefully before install. I'm not knocking his work at all. He has been very helpful throughout the whole process, and it is nice to have people like him in the community to do custom work like this.

That is actually where the frame of the lens connects to the plastic base. They're never perfect and it's from the facotry. It's because the bezel is almost like free moving but it's held inliterally by two screws. The glue I use is brown, so it can't be that. I don't use much glue anyway it's the sealant that I overkill.

Get this shit....

I go over to Daniel's house to put the tails in. We remove my rear bumper, take out the old tails, swap LED boards, and put the new tails in. My brake lights worked but as soon as I turned on the turn signals, the left red corner piece fell out of it's place and it was wiggling around inside of the tail light housing.

So we undid everything we had previously done and Daniel is currently cutting open the left side tail light, securing the piece back in, and then resealing the light. I'll be over to his crib tomorrow morning before the meet to swap the tails once again.

Fml.

Damn. Sounds like bad juju to me lol

This happened to me as well, so don't feel bad. The problem was fixed, and it looks great.

If they are DEPO, they may have a hard time going back in. This is why some you may see have some glue in the corners actually holding it down. It may be smart to use some in the corner to hold it in place. Dont use super glue because it may leave some residue behind. I learned the hard way when its in there and movement will plop it back out, I.E. red voo doos but the problem got fixed. Even if its snapped in, it plops back out, so a dab of glue would be a smart idea.

Yep these are the DEPO ones. Like you said, when we were taking the assembly apart, there was some hot glue in the ridge where the corner lens sits. We were wondering why the hell it was there. I guess we know now

Daniel worked his ass off last night but wasn't able to finish them. They will hopefully be on the car tomorrow!

Yah I noticed that there was glue there, so I removed the glue and and used super glue on the red lens haha oops. Oh well hope it works.

So I feel your pain cl. Last night I finally got both taillights pretty close to done, all I had to do was seal them. I sealed my first light and somehow the glue seeped in between the lens and the gunmetal frame I painted! Argh looks so bad. So now I have to reopen the one taillight clean everything and maybe sand and repaint my bezel!!!! Noooooooo! Sucks!

Hope that taillight is salvageable!! I may need to get a taullight from you ack. Just one side. I may also ask you to do it, cuz freal this mod sucks to do!!! Haha.

On a side note. I removed the frost piece and swappped led boards before I sealed my taillights. I wanted to make sure I liked the look before sealing them, just in case I wanted to put the frost piece back in.

All I have to say is that it looks SIIIICK without the frost piece! Videos and pics to come!

Unfortunately, looks like tails might not go on for a few days. I need to try and fix the one taillight.

Everything was going too smoothly during the install yesterday so I knew something would prevent my tails from getting on the car

Sorry to hear you are having difficulties as well. I'm really impatient but I want these to be done right the FIRST time and not have to try to fix any stupid mistakes later down the road.

No. They are screwed into the tail light from the inside. You maybe able to rip it out but I don't condone you to do so.

Yah me too.. I finally have the chance to reopen the taillight.. Had to repaint the bezel because the freakin glue ripped it off when I took it apart again.. ARGH!!

Anyways, how are you guys glueing the part that is by the trunk lid? I am afraid that water is going to get in there somehow. When I glued it last time it leaked through into the lens. So bad that I had to take apart the whole light again. Maybe I put too much glue?

Damn dude this project is killing you! I'm sorry to hear you are having so many problems.

Are you talking about the part of the tail light that you can see when you open the trunk? Like the flat piece of black plastic?

Glue it shut with "some" glue and kill it with sealer. Use a thick glue also and that should help.

Daniel is a fucking man that's how

It took him probably 30 minutes just to dremel that one side. It's rained twice and I washed my car once and I have no leaks whatsoever
