RKilian...that look sick....I wish I had a black car too....I don't think tint looks good on white cars cause it breaks up the overall lives of the car too much. On the black, however, it looks really nice. Nice looking So Cal ride!

Ravi,
I want to visit your city one day - I've heard great things about it.
I have pics of NBP with tint in my pic gallery. I tried to take pics on cloudy and sunny days for comparison. I asked for Llumar Centaur 35% on the sides and I think 20% or 25% on the back. There's no telling what they really put on there...

I love the WDP (I have an NBP). I have to disagree with you, though. Man, I think tint on a white car looks sweet. Of course others would describe it as pimpish. Nice car. Just paint those mudflaps or something!

I just got my car tinted 35% like yours...Long story short.. On the rear doors, the little quater windows I have a quater inch strip on each side where the rubber is really tight against the window. The Tint guy said that he couldn't get the Tint any farther in since it was too tight, and now it is visible that there isn't any tint on the both sides where the rubber is against the window. Did you have to pull off the door panal and remove the plastic piece so you could get the tint to cover the whole little windows on the rear door? Let me know...

Do you own an anthracite/ebony? I've only seen 1 more TL and there is another member who also lives in AV. His has also been dropped 1".
If you read the vehicle code, anything below 70% is illegal.
Xbrian:
My installer, told me that it was a nightmare to get the tint in there; he even broke a couple of films doing it but he got it in there without taking the door panels out. I have hear of another TL'r that got it there based on my recommendation and he was also very happy with the results.
There is no piece of glass without tint on my car, I even checked it with a flashlight

I have an Abyss Bleu Pearl/Camel 6 Spd, no Nav. I had mine tinted with a medium tint all around (don't know the %) and have had no problems at all. It is still light enough that I am not concerned about getting a ticket. I don't think the installer used felt, but I don't know for sure. The film was Solargard.

Question: When window-tinting is installed, is there a good, better, best system? I'm guessing there is and it's the subject of many debates as to which is the best. I have never gotten window-tinting on any of my cars b/c I've seen cars soooo many cars with very poor tint jobs. But, I'm looking for the best tinting that is practical for blocking sunlight and not necessarily the darkest b/c the quality of the installation and material is most important to me. Anyone?

This is SSM/ebony with 50% tint. You may want to use lighter tint on the darker interior. Make sure that your installer installs felt strips. Door panels are easily removed--there's only 3 screws there (one is under the door handle).

Thanks for posting the pic.
I think I'll go darker, maybe 35% I was used to 20% in my previous car which was black on black.
I'm in LI too. Where are you located? I'm in Bethpage but I get all over the island for work. I've only seen a few TL's so far. Your is the first one besides mine that is SSM.

NY law is 35%, but I've had 20% on a black car with black interior for years and never gotten a ticket. Have the windows rolled down if you even get pulled over. Turn on interior lights at night when you get pulled over. You won't get pulled over for tints really, but it can be an additional ticket if you get stopped for something else

This is from NYS "Vehicle and Traffic Law":
"Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark. The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light. Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window. This law also applies to rear windows unless the vehicle has outside rear-view mirrors on both sides. The mirrors must give the driver a full and clear view behind the vehicle.
It is illegal to sell, offer for sale, or install glass that does not comply with this law. It is illegal to operate a vehicle with glass that does not comply with this law.
If a medical condition requires a person to have tinted vehicle windows, they can request an exemption from the law. Request form MV-80W from a DMV Office or Call Center."
So, the answer is 70 for the front and no limit for the rear windows.

Bingo, that's what I said...
IMO, I'll still try to have 35% tint in all windows, except the front one before this Summer.

Here's 20% & 35% on same car
35% is legal in most states (all?) since it's less than 70% (65% actually) it's also legal in NYC. Check out my gallery for the same NBP car with 20% and then a day later with 35%. Details of the change were in a prior (lost) thread.

doesnt it say "The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light". 35% in tint mean its only leting in 35% and 20% is only leting in 20% of light. the lower the number you go the less light you let in. which means that 35% is blocking 65% of light from coming in. "Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window" means that you can only block 30% which is 70% tint.

I got this info from NYS DMV website.
Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law
If that couldn't work, try this and put "tint" to search... NYS DMV Search
This is the only link describing the details. Wish you good luck to get others.
35% tints seem illegal in NYS, that could be still my target though.
BTW, I'm still looking for the trustable shop for my tint. My dealer quoted me without felts, $240 around... where did you tint your car if your not far from NYC? Thanks.

The place where she got it done (where I got mine done as well) offers additional "insurance". If you buy their high end package/film, they offer free removal and free re-installation for all of your future fix-it tickets!

After reading the posts here I did have felt installed (my installer charged me $30 extra for it). After about 6-7 days, when I first rolled the windows down, there was a long vertical scratch on the driver side front window. It was almost unnoticeable, but once you knew it was there you could easily see it. I went back to the tinting place and it turns out that the hard rubber weatherstrip kind of has 2 surfaces—the one on the very top that probably acts as a squeegee, and the other one just below it, but it it actually curves towards the outside of the door and when window rolls down it scratches against it, even though, there’s still felt on top. The solution was just to stick felt on that surface and so far no scratches. It would’ve been easier to apply a wider piece of felt from the beginning, but it was first 04’TL that he did. The whole job including retinting of one window took only 40 minutes.
