tint windows question black interior help

Before anyone reply to use the search button i did search my question but could not find an answer about it.

my tints in my black TL (black interior)`is 20% (illegal in NY). Now before i get stop by a cop i decided that i want to remove then and install 35% (i bought the car with 20% already on it).

i went to my local shop to do it and the guys at the shop said that if i wanted to be legal i have to go 50% even though NY requirement is 35%. i asked him why and he said that 35% in my car (black) would not past the test because of its dark color. i told him what if i always have my receipt with me just to show proof that my tints are 35%. He said that it still won't matter cause it didn't pass the test. i saw 50% and is actually almost like having no tint at all.

i really think this is all bull but why would a shop refuse to install or advice not to put it on, to remove the old one. They can actually jack me up by removing the old tints, installing the 35% and making double the profit?

Actually to be legal you would have to get 70% tint, which is like no tint at all. 50% is barely noticeable as well as you can tell. Just go to another place that will install it for you.

Factory tint is 7 or 8%?

From my experience:
50% = Too light. Waste of money.
35% = Good but still can see through.
20% = Perfect but may get pulled over.
5% = Too dark. Can't see at night/in rain.

Hey bro Im from Ohio and I just tinted my TL yesterday. The 50% tint was pathetic and the law here is 50% so I went with 35% all around and 20% on the rear windshield. I can tell you that during the day the 35% isnt bad bc you can still see right through the car but at night unless a cop is pulling up next to you and is trying to be a hero he may stop you. So I suggest you get an rx from a dr or optometrist saying you or a parent who drives the car has 'photophobia' or any type of ocular problems that may be exacerbated by light and then get the letter notarized. This will protect you when you get pulled over and fined.
All these laws are bs and pointless, Im serious considering moving to sweden

btw the 35% is perfect in my opinion. the 20% is too dark, my bro has it on his car and its impossible when reversing or looking for street signs. good luck in the winter too. 35% is ideal, bsides you want chicks to see you when you pull up on them man ! lol

i read online but it seems is very dificult to get one. Only if you have a friend or family member that would give you the RX. The doctor is putting his name and job on the line because he is giving a RX that is not real only to benefit us. i already discarded this option.

i might be looking to leave my 20% back and change the side front and back to 50% or so since my interior is black. For now i'll drive this way to see how far can i get lucky. if i ever get pull by a cop i'll beg for only a warning.

I don't see where the interior color makes any difference LEGALLY...."visibly", yeah, a darker interior makes any tint appear darker, but if they pull you over to check it with a light meter, that measures from either side of the glass with the window halfway down - the meter can't "see" your interior at all.

On mine I have a 5% strip on the w/s, 35% on the front doors, 20% on the main rear door windows, and 5% on the rear 1/4 windows and back window.

The 35 is a joke - it's like no tint at all. I'm thinkin about another layer of 35 on the fronts, or have it removed and redone with 20 and take my chances with the money-grubbin federales

I love the look of dark tint...but our state troopers in WI are crazy about tint and will pull you over quicker for that then they will for loud exhaust or other useless rules.
