Tint Ticket Question

Hey guys; so I'm rollin' home last night and instead of pullin' over one of the many drunk drivers a cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket for my tint being 17% eheh. I can't hate on him though unless it's 100% sunny out my black on black looks like a black mirror and you can't see anything inside haha

So my question is this; if I may the fine ($142), what is going to happen in future instances if I get pulled over for it again? I mean, I'm not trying to get it taken off unless the consequence is something major like going to jail. So if I pay the fine, leave the tint on what happens if I get pulled over for it again? What happens the third time, etc.? I would assume I would just keep paying the fine over and over but who knows lol.

Lastly, do you think I should go to court and dispute the ticket? If so what would I say? With my old car I got the tint (30%) charge attached to a speeding ticket but it was thrown out in court...

Have you been pulled over before? He seriously wrote you a ticket just for tint? Why not just a work order? Must have had to fill his quota. If this was your first, I'd get the tint reduced to the legal limit, go to court, tell the judge you've removed it, and ask for mercy for it being the first time. Eh, in theory...

I get pulled over all the time actually haha. I always get out of the ticket though for whatever random reason because I'm pretty lucky. I always make sure to roll the windows down before the cop comes up to my window and that usually works but this time he noticed because he was right next to me on the road lol. I have a few speeding tickets with my old car like 3-6 years ago.

To be quite honest I'm not trying to reduce the tint or get it removed. I'm just wondering if a more serious consequence comes up the 2nd, 3rd, etc. fourth time offense if that were to ever occur; or if I just keep paying fines lol

P.S. yeah he pulled me over JUST for the tint. Quite honestly I think he pulled me over strictly because my TL is sittin' on 20's and I just had waxed it so I was on shine....he probably figured I was ridin' dirty haha

yes, if you keep getting pulled over and you get tickets you can just pay the fine over and over if thats what you want to do. now if you live where you got the ticket and you live in a small town id probably take the tint off, as the cop will have a hard on for you and can write you everytime he sees your car. did the cop use a tint meter? thats your only shot at winning in court. if you goto court and win and your traffic court system is upto date you can bet it will be the last time you will win in court on that matter. the next time you go the judge will see you have a previous ticket for tints and hammer you.

Sweet. As long as I can't get my license suspended/revoked or go to jail I'm coo with a $142 once and a while lol. I live in Minnesota near Minneapolis so the odd's of seeing the same cop are less than 1%. The cop did indeed use a tint meter to measure the tint; it appears that the factory tint was 3% because I added 20% tint and the meter showed 17%. I gave him a hard time about the meter because the last time they did it in my old car they left two huge cuts in the tint with the device; needless to say I was pissed!

For anybody interested in seeing how my ride looks you can catch some pics here:

You just have to keep paying the fines if you dont want to take it off.

And I doubt many police departments still operate on the quota system.

i just got my car tinted and im going to go to my eye doctor and tell her to write me a letter saying that i need tint in my car because my eyes are bad when it is really bright out. i dont know if thats going to work but its worth a shot since i give them so much business.

im pretty sure a judge wouldnt have a problem with tint if its because of medical reasons.

I get tickets for plates most often & I always plea not guilty, then they reduce it.

I'm on my 3rd tint ticket now. 2 were from my last tl, and i just got one for my 06.
one was $35 & the other was $90. the new one is $125
I roll through the same roadblock in a rich neighborhood daily & they always wave me through. Even with dark tints, no front plate, & a tinted rear plate and one time my car was baked so i didn't roll the windows down & the cop gave me a mean look but still let me roll by.
this time i had the windows rolled down & he asked me to roll them up. there was another guy there that day & he ran up & made me stop just after the other cops waved me through
Anyway, before I got this one tinted I took good pictures @ the tint shop with close ups of the vin number etching so i can have it dismissed through the mail.
Always plea not guilty & lie if u have to.

-It's for skin conditions. they are not going to reduce visibility for people with bad eyes .

You need to check the local laws as most of the time, tint is a fix it ticket, if you try just to pay, you may get a warrant for your arrest as it needs to be fixed, not just paid. I know it is this way in California, I got a tint ticket while I was living there and sent in the fine, then moved to FL and found out they had issued a warrant after sending the money back to a wrong address. Took 3 months to get it straightened out.....Omly reason I got out of it was because I moved to Florida....So check into it....

In my jurisdiction tint tickets are $105 a pop. That said, if the cop sees that you have been ticketed before he/she has the option of writing up a ticket for impreding police which is a criminal charge. There is case law on the books here to support a conviction for such a charge. This is a key reason I didn't go with 20% on my TL after my experiences with 20% on my last car.

Cool

my tints were lighter on my last car 30-35% and now they are 20% because i got tickets anyway. If i'm breaking the law i may as well not be a half ass about it. Although, it is way harder to see @ night now but the car looks better.
in NY, the legal tint is 70% or better. i think the lightest tints they make are 50% and those are just a waste.
I live in an area that has a lot of nice and well maintained cars & they have dark tints, nice rims & no front plate.
y do they have to mess with the kid?
i'm not a trouble maker, but when i see cops, i'm running with the criminals

They do. Just don't call it a quota. You now have a "recomended minimum number of citations". It's on a daily basis rather than monthly as to avoid attention and sudden ramp up of written citations. You don't have to meet this recomended minimum, but if you don't, you will be subject to close scrutiny.
It's not really bad though. It's not hard to meet as there is no shortage of people breaking the law. Plus, departments have to have a way to judge officer performance. You don't want em sleeping all day.

You have no idea what you are talking about, especially on a daily basis. Your comments have so many flaws in it, I cant begin to tell you.

Flatfoot.

Dont break the law, and you wont have any problems.

And how do you know this? Might be true for some areas but on the large scale I think quotas are just a myth.

They are enforced just like any other law but to what degree depends on many factors (crime rate, weather, etc). But ultimately, it comes down to an officer's discretion whether to cite or not.

If you've never had any tinting issues in your area, chances are you never will. However, where I live, Northern Cal, 15% all around will more likely land you a fix it ticket. Just my

Where I live there is no set tint % - the way the law reads is that it is at the officers discression. That said, the general rule of thumb is that you will not get stopped for 35% but anything lower and you're fair game. One thing I did when I had 20% was when I got stopped by the popo - mostly for tint - I immediately put down all 4 windows and tossed the keys on the dash - even in harsh winter weather. Most of the time the officers do have legitimate concerns for their saftey and if I choose to tint dark I try and help them out any way I can.

I had 20% on my Accord. I had a local cop make a quick U-turn just to pull me over.

Man, if that's how your local L.E agency operates, that sucks!

When I got my tickets for 5% tint on a white car I didn't take it off. It was a "fix it" or "repair" ticket ... so that means I had to get it take off and then approval stamped by a MD inspector. ..... But bc I'm a hard head I just got someone to stamp it and I paid them $50 so I didn't have to get it taken off, haha, then I just sent the ticket it stamped and kept on trucking down the road.

You can always keep it on, but the you'll have to keep paying the fines, etc. It all depends how much you want to keep paying for just tint on your windows ... because eventually your going to end up paying over $500 just to keep some tint flim on your windows, haha.

On the other hand, I saw a BMW M3 on the way into work today ... with 20% on the windshield ... I want 20% on the windshield now, haha. I use to have 35% on the front window.

What's there to dispute? You have ILLEGAL tint on your windows and you admit it. The cop pulled you over and then cited you for it. Why the hell would you waste the court's time with this?

Just pay the ticket.

So many people not taking responsibility for their own actions.

You play. You pay. Simple as that.
