Tint, Scratches, and Moleskin
Ok, I've searched like crazy and still have not found a good answer. I've been wanting to tint my TL forever and read I needed to install moleskin otherwise any dust/dirt particles will scratch it. When I think about it, theres hardly any dust or dirt that gets in my car or even in the window sill when I look in it. I hardly roll down my windows. Has anyone ever experienced scratches on their tint without installing moleskin?

I would recommend putting the moleskin. I have a lot of little scratches on all 4 windows and one HUGE scratch right down the middle of the front passenger window.

I didn't put it on my 06 TL, and after three months my car had several scratches on all four windows, the driver's side had like three huge scraches and the funny part is I traded it in for my new Type S about 2 weeks ago, and the dealership already has it for sale, and they didn't remove the tint. I'm telling you the windows look bad. So I already installed the moleskin myself on mine three days ago and still there with no problems at all. I bought the moleskin kit from tintprotector for $30. They charge not less than $25 per door around Virginia, and It took me less than 30 minutes and I didn't have to remove any screws or remove the panels. so I'm going to get my tint done probably this weekend.

Get Moleskin for sure
I called at least 10 tint shops and nobody used or liked felt. I had a very high end tint shop do my car, they guaranteed it wouldn't scratch. 3 days later my back driver window got 5 big scratches. I called them and they said it has never happened to any TL they tinted.
I just finished installing the Moleskin about 2 hours ago. Its very easy.
Now I will go back and have them re-tint my back driver side window.
2 other windows have very light scratches I don't mind. But I don't want anymore.
Hopefully the Moleskin will work as advertised. JUST DO IT BRAH

I went to check on a local tint shop today. They are locally reputable and have gotten positive recommendations from other Acurazine members.
What they told me was:
The 04 - 06 TL's used a hard(er) plastic weather-strip/seal and they are very prone to scratches and need the moleskin/felt.
They also said that the 07's use a softer plastic seal and are less prone to scratch. With the 07's they feel the fronts are more likely to scratch due to more use and leave it to the customer to decide whether to get moleskin or not. They'll also do the back, but feel it is even less necessary than the fronts.
When they do the tints for the local Acura stealership, they put moleskin on all four windows.

Just buy a small roll of felt from your local fabric store or Walmart and install it yourself. This method requires no adhesives like the moleskin. It simply holds in place from the door panel when reinstalled. I have had it for months and it works perfectly!! Never can peel off, never any adhesives getting on my windows, and it's dirt cheap maybe a couple bucks. Don't use moleskin!!

I got it for my front windows. Tint guy charged me like $20 per window to install. I cheaper out and didn't get it done for the rear windows. I hope I don't regret it. Mine was a reputable shop with lifetime warranty on peeling and fading but no warranty for scratches

My tint guy said that I didn't need the moleskin but with all the scratches on all 4 side windows, I clearly know he was mistaken ![Why Me](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/whyme.gif)
I would also love to see a DIY and have it stickied.

Im sorry, I should have thought of that when I did the job. So unfortunately I cant really do a DIY since the job is done, but its really as simple as removing the door panels, and wrapping the rubber seals in a layer of felt. Then when the door panel is reinstalled the felt is held in place by the doors inner sheet metal and the door panel once installed.
