Tint Question MD

Hey guys I just purchased a 05 Tl A Spec and it had tint from Formula One on it. My question is I purchased it in VA but I live in MD so the dealership said I needed to get it inspected, I passed MD inspection but the shop told me I had to go to state police to get the tint inspected. When I went there it was rainy so I had to postpone it to another date, but the state trooper there told me that 35% was legal limit but they told me to achieve this I would need to apply 50% window film is this correct or will the 35% window film be legal????

I think because our windows come factory tinted, the 50% number is correct..

oh wow, i didn't know this. I just got my TL 2 weeks ago and am planning on tinting it soon after I put moleskin on. So if I applied 35% film it will actually be like 20%?

If you live in Maryland, your car is inspected once. Usually at or near the time of purchase. Since he purchased it in VA, he'll probably need to inspect it in MD soon after purchase. I would have recommended saving any questionable mods until after this inspection.

well the previous owner had the tint on there already so I don't want to go thru the process of taking it off, passing the inspection and then putting it back on for a couple hundred besides the fact that the tint isn't that dark I can see right through it during the day and night.

tint-be careful

MKIM, I sold my 02 TL-S to a buddy and we had to take it to the Md State Police after inspection. I'd had the car done in Florida 2 years earlier and it didn't look dark and I'd asked them to do it to 35%. The tint was only 2-3 points too dark, failed and I myself took it off and it was a bear! You have every reason to fear this if you are who inspects the car, why aren't the Va Dealers having this done for you? Anyway, if you take it to a shop if it fails the state test, it costs as much to remove it as to install it I'm told. You may ask the Va Dealer for a re-embursement in case.

Well I believe the shops around my way charge about 90 to take it off, anyway the tint isn't like pitch dark or anything, So is there a light test that the state police puts it thru and are the results consistent and accurate, by that I mean does the light test give a read out?
