To Tint or not to Tint

I have heard a lot about tint getting scratched on the 2004+ TLs. Don't want to spend $200+ to end up getting scratches. Is there a test proof way of tinting ??
How much more is the moleskin ?? Does it really work ??
I live in MD/No. Va...any references for tinting ??

just use moleskin, I got mine installed on all windows with a non-metallic tint w/ moleskin for under $200. You just need to research and do the leg work and you will ge that price in MD.

i have tints on my car, and no scratches so far. not even a hint of one... and i roll down/up my windows a lot (for "fresh air"). my tint shop gave me a bottle of tint/window cleaner, which apparently protects the tint against scratches as well. doesn't list what's actually in the bottle, so i couldn't tell ya what it is, but you should ask your tint shop about it.

get the tints anyway... make sure to ask the shop about what would happen if you get scratches on the tint. mine (i got 3 cars done by them so far) told me they'll take care of it for free of charge if the tints get scratched. also, it's always a plus if the film itself is scratch resistant.

Try The Tint Shoppe in Woodbridge, VA 703-491-8300 Talk to Rick. They just tinted my TL yesterday. They put Quantum on it and I have no issues with navi/gps because of it either.

there are some places where you can spend a little extra, like $30 in my case, and they will replace the tint for free if it gets scrateched for any reason... kids, dogs, baseball, etc.

But, they can only do that on "legal" tint... probably has something to do with their warranty company requiring a receipt, which they wont give with illegal tint...

Also.. by the way... if you're going illegal, consider getting your windshield tinted...
if anyone has ever owned a car with tint on their windshield (i mean like 40-50%) they will agree with me that it is very awesome to have, not so much in how it looks, but how nice it is to drive with it, and how it helps keep it cooler... You don't want to go too dark though, especially if you spend a lot of time driving dark country roads, but with upper 40s lower 50s, it's pretty easy to still see at night just fine, and it is not really noticeable from far away that you have tint... sometimes though when it rains and you look down at your car from your office building, your car will the only car whos windshiled doesnt have that "greenish" shade to it like everyone else's. but with upper 40s lower 50s, cops cant even tell unless they look really closely, i got pulled over for haveing 13% in the front when i was younger, he didnt even notice i had it on the windshield.

Make sure the shop has done it before and they're not like... uh.. sure, we can do that... uhh... i think... uhh... Most shops that do illegal for you will proabbly do windshields too.... it is VERY awesome to have it! It'd probably help protect your dash too!

So what exactly is moleskin ?? Is it applied over the window or along the rubber window seal ??

Along the rubber sill. Its like a fuzzy version, so its less harsh on the windows.
