Tint job of horrors

Today was supposed be the day I was going to get my windows tinted, got a good quote from a place called midnight windows tinting in seattle, but when I got there is was an operation out of an old run down house, basically it was ghetto. I just couldnt bring myself to have some place that looked so amateur like to do my windows, even thought hey quoted me at $229. So I called around today and found Accutint in Seattle, even though its gonna cost me $51 more, I think I will be alot happier with this place, and from what I have read, they are pretty good. Hope everything goes well tomorrow, we shall see.

It sounds like you made a good decision. I frequently subscribe to the notion that how one does some things is how he does all things. If a shop can't be bothered to present a good image, I can't believe they'd care a lot about the work they do.

You win some you lose some with places like that. It's so hard to tell. Last year I took my Accord to this body shop to get the front bumper replaced. When I pulled up it was a ghetto operation and I was hesitant. It literally looked like Sanford and Son. The only reason I went with it was because I had known someone that had gone there, but I didn't know anything about the place. The guy had no computer in sight. He looked up the prices in books. He didn't take credit cards either.

However, in the end he did a good job and it was quite cheaper than what the dealership's body shop quoted me.

plastikman, let me know how it goes. I'm looking for a local shop as well. I've only got a quote from Mr Tint & Sun in Bellevue of $299. Place looked good and the photo wall was impressive.

Don't judge a book by its cover. Ask to see examples of their work and if they offer some type of warranty. $229 seems a bit high for your car. I had mine done locally for $179 which has the same amount of windows as yours

Man, I paid $175 (7 windows) in Pasadena CA. I've gotten 3 cars done there and have been very happy with the results, no problems of any kind... Nice guys, clean place, expensive rides comin' and goin'..

Altadena Drive, just below the 210 for locals. I think that it's called "Ace" or something similar.

Had their tint on my Solara for almost 100k miles.

Sounds nice. I "almost" went with the same exact color/kit/wheel combo. I decided on the Silver w/ Body kit and custom wheels. We'll have to meet up sometime.

Seattle Area Tint Shop - Prestige Window Tinting

Hi All: I just had my 05 ssm/q/navi TL re-tinted at Prestige Window Tinting in Lynnwood,WA.
My original tint job done locally (Eastern WA) was done VERY POORLY !. Scratches, air bubbles, debris between tint and glass, piss poor tinting of rear quarter glass, etc. not to mention that the "Lifetime Warranty" that was not honored !
I called Andy at Prestige (after talking with Acura Of Lynnwood, were I purchased my TL) and told him about all of my problems.
Andy did a GREAT job, I also had him do a moleskin install. No problems that I had with the Eastern Washington so called tinter.

So now i ask you guys what should I do? SHould I go to another shop, if so the people in teh NEW YORK aread any good tint jobs? And will they remove the tint? Will there be any problems if I do this like will the left-over glue casue damage to the new tints?

How much was the install?

Moleskin will not cure the bubbles problem, which is usually caused by improper installation or cheap materials.

If you go to another shop and they remove the tint, they will, if they are a good shop, remove any glue residue and insure a proper installation, with moleskin. If they don't then you shouldn't go there.

Check the forum for others in your area who recommended tint shops.

Well I got all my cars tinted at Lorenzo's in the bronx. He is a little pricey but they do a hell of a job. When i brought my 3 gen TL in, i didn't even have to explain to him about the moleskin stuff cause he knew about the TL tint problems. he charged me $325.00 with moleskin install. Got 15% tint. He charges an extra 100 if u want the windshield done too. They really do a professional job. Just ask him what concerns you and he will be straight forward. If ya want to give him a call the number is (718)994-9100

Make an appointment with him and be sure to tell him Javier's friend with the black TL recommended him to you.

as for midnight window tinting....

I have had many cars done at there seattle location (perfect Installs)! There shop does look like an old house but they do a very nice job. They told me they have another shop in everett also. I also know they offer felting for window seals so they won't scratch the film.

When I read you guys talking about a great job done, I would like to know from you if, OBJECTIVELY, you can say that there is not one single bubble or tiny piece of dust in your tint.
I had mine done by a very reputable tinter in Pittsburgh and although I would consider the result excellent, it is not 100% flawless, I'd say 95%. I can see 1 or 2 tiny wee bubbles or defect on each window.
Is it the case for each of you or can you really say it's absolutely flawless. Once again, I mean objectively.
Thanks.

the last thing i want to do is pay 51 extra dollars to cover the cost of your glamor shop...just because the tint shop was operating in a dump doesnt mean they cant tint...most tint shops i know of dont spend alot of money on a shop...no need to, you can run the business from your home garage...

From that distance, all tint jobs look awesome, including mine. That's not sufficient for me to judge if it's really perfect or not. I would tend to think that it's the nature of the beast to have a few tiny imperfections but maybe I'm wrong.

I'd like to read a few responses from you guys on the subject.
