Tint dilemma on '08 TL...

So I just called up 2 very reputable local auto tint shops asking if they have the felt or moleskin when they tint, both of them said no.

Both shops basically told me they've worked on many Acuras and never have scratch issues! One shop also said only 07 would scratch, 08 and above won't. They even offer warranty that they would re-tint if there is any scratch

I know many Acurazines have scratch issues but now that I've talked to two shops.. I don't even know what to think!!!

the shops you called...they're responses are very inconsistent. "07 scratches but 08's dont" .....HELLO..they're the same car.

the one thing that is consistent is all the threads on acurazine, people that didnt get mole skin installed, their tint was scratched.

I didnt apply mole skin till 2 weeks after i got my tint done....my rear window has a vertical scratch.

its better to be safe than sorry.

I've had my windows tinted since 2005 and every single one has vertical scratches. They aren't always visible, but at certain angles they are pretty plain.

Get the moleskin. There's no reason not to.

granted it could depend on the type of tint you use and how scratch resistant it may be. It could also depend on how dirty your window blades get. It's also possible your tint place cut your window blades. Some do that to prevent scratches.

^I bought huper optik tint. It's a very thick tint. it took a month to dry, thats how thick it is. it cost $360 for all 5 windows.
one of the best tints available....my point is, Huper Optik doesnt cover scratches.

maybe the shop will warranty yours, but most tint manufactures wont honor scratches.

you can always DIY the moleskin.
it was very easy.
took me less than an hour.

Had my windows tinted about 3 weeks ago, decided against the moleskin, rolled down my driver side window and I have one scratch now. I now have moleskin. 08 TL-S if that matters.

Find a place that will do it or do it yourself imo. It's like $50. why not ?

If you don't want to install it yourself I'm sure these "reputable" shops would be able to pull the door panels off... it takes like 10 minutes.

....

- that's what you should think.

I heard the EXACT same thing from the local tinter here. "Oh, we do ALLLL the Acura's for the dealer. Never had a problem. They won't scratch unless you kid stuffs Cheerios in there. We guarantee our tint - Lifetime."

So got mole skin on the front only. 3-weeks later the backs were scratched to shit so I took it back. "Oh, we don't guarantee for scratches," and they charged me full boat to redo the rears PLUS $20 per window for mole skin.

So, yeah, listen to the sales guy. What the heck do the people who drive the cars know.

(Yes, I'm still pissed 4 years later.)

i got my car tinted first...paid 200 tints got scratched up
went back to have them retint the car for FREE because of their guarantee and had them installed molskin for 10 bux a window.

ive heard of some ppl whose windows were fine without mol skin but MOST ppl get scratches on the TL

its because the insulation is so tight on the windows

some tinters wanted to cut off the weather strip i was like are you stupid that would cause massive amounts of road noise/vibration and discomfort.

$50 for parts and labor. might be a bit high cause it's from a shop that charges a lot in general but it's not too bad for peace of mind.

Buy the moleskin online and take it to the installer.. I found the seller via a link I saw on this forum.. first tint got scratched badly.. second set we used the moleskin it it has been there for 8 months and no scratches..

Buy it and take it to one that agrees to install it prior to tinting..

Dont find out the hard way..

My installer here in NYC told me to put it on cause it scratches the tint, but I already knew about it before from this forum. Charged me an extra $50 to do all 4 which is the normal price, but you can do it yourself if you want.

I've had tints for 2years now with moleskin and no issues... but I gues you are looking for people with NO MOLESKIN and no issues.... which may be hard to find.
